Pickett"s RV Park, Alamo NV to Cactus Pete's RV Jackpot NV

Today's journey from Alamo, NV to Jackpot, NV was about 350 miles so we needed to get an early start.
Hooked up and ready to go by 7:45 am.
Heading north.
Lovely and green here and the mountains look just like velvet.
Turn right for Ely.  Big ash trees here and some RV's must have pulled over and spent the night.
The trees have leaves and the grass is green....just beautiful.  The drive from Alamo to Jackpot is one of our favorites.  We just love the desert scenery and mountains.
Water here so they are growing hay.
Coming through White Water Narrows and I'll bet I have a hundred of these pictures but I can never resist.
Gorgeous.
Looks like a sculpture was busy here but it was only Mother Nature.
Just past Lund we stopped for fuel and the mountains are snow capped in the distance.  We're quite a bit higher in elevation here (over 5,000 ft.) and the trees don't have leaves yet.
Some sort of little purple flowers are blooming everywhere.
Turn right for Ely.
Lots of snow on the mountains.
The Ruth Copper Mine tailings in the distance.
Snow still on the ground as we get close to the summit which is just over 7,000 ft.
Downtown Ely.  We like it here and really enjoyed the time we stayed and rode the steam train.
I show you the flags so you can see there isn't much wind and what there is comes from the south.  A tail wind!
Coming through McGill and yes the street is completely slanted.
Beautiful old building.  Probably from the copper mining days.
Lunch stop at the Pony Express Wayside.  I did a blog on the history of all this on our way south in September.
Which one shall we take....93 or 93?
A beautiful day with really good weather.  Most of the day we traveled at elevations of over 6,000 ft.
That is one long panorama of a mountain range.
It's a day for scenery shots and these are only half of what I took!
We were rolling along at our usual 60mph and there were yellow lights flashing that said "train" then red flashing lights and a train coming through at high speed.  A bit of a surprise out in the middle of nowhere.
This is a deer migration area and there are very tall fences at the edge of the road and deer overpasses so they can get across the highway.  Much safer for the deer and....us too!
Getting close to Jackpot and the brush next to the water has turned color.  Probably some red ozier dogwood in the mix...just like at home.
We rolled into the Cactus Pete's RV park around 3:30 pm and were set up in the sunshine in no time.  About 24C so nice and warm which is always a surprise in Jackpot.  We've come through here in April and run into snow.
Out the side window so a bit of reflection.  Tomorrow we are off to Catfish Junction Oregon and it's supposed to rain at some point later in the day.

A good stop here for $20 a night and we can get a shower as well.  So ....beer, supper, a little TV and then bed.  Another 250 miles tomorrow.

  1. Norma once spent a few hours in the RV under that ash tree while I took the car off and drove to Rachel, NV to look for strange things in the sky at Area 51. Didn't find any aliens.

    1. I guess Norma knew there weren't any aliens! Forgot to mention that the old Prospector hotel in Ely is gone and has been replaced with a big ugly modern box. Too bad as it sits right on the corner.
