Cactus Pete's RV, Jackpot NV to Catfish Junction RV, OR

It wasn't sunny yesterday morning in Jackpot but it was 10 C and not freezing so no complaints.
250 miles to go yesterday as we traveled from Nevada, through Idaho and ended up in Catfish Junction, Oregon.  As you leave Jackpot and head up the hill you are immediately in Idaho and the time changes to one hour later.  We ignore all of this and just stay on Pacific daylight time from when we leave home in the fall to when we return in the spring.  By the time we get to Mazatlan in the fall the clocks are all the same.  What's an hour here or there to those of us who are retired anyway...unless you have to catch a plane!
Not a sunny day but the sky was really interesting.  We expected to hit some rain by the time we got into Oregon.  The best part...no wind.
Closer to Twin Falls and the fields were all green but still no leaves.
We turned off highway 93 north and were now on old highway 30.  We used to go through Twin Falls to get to I 84 but since we are never in a hurry we prefer the scenic route.  Up ahead Filer.
We stopped in Buhl for fuel and I ran across the street to the Ridley's market to pick up some fresh bread and a couple of other things.  I just love these small town grocery stores.  The varied ones in Ajo, Alamo, Ely and the one here in Buhl have everything you need and the prices are good too.  The staff is friendly and cheery and that's all you need.
Beautiful old towns with lots of history.  Usually when we pass through here there are a lot more leaves on the trees but not this year.  Spring seems to be late everywhere.
 A pretty country road.
Old highway 30 goes around the farms and not through them....up ahead we make a 90 degree turn to the right.
Close to the Snake River now and you can see all the rock and waterfalls in the distance.
Spring run off and the water is high.   Lots of the houses here have a dock out front for their boats.
 Next up...Hagerman.
Now we climbed up out of the river valley.
Here we've left highway 30 and are travelling northwest on I 84.  Lots of traffic today as this is a holiday weekend.
Hmm.....don't want to do 80 or 70...we do 60!  The traffic passes us in droves but that's fine with us.
 The Snake River.
We hit a patch of construction before Boise where they had the truck traffic which included us on one of the west bound lanes and the auto traffic sharing the east bound lanes on the other side of the meridian.  They are tearing up the concrete and getting ready to lay down new material.  Up to this point the concrete was miserably bumpy and must be failing.  I wonder what will happen in Mexico with all the new concrete highways....can't be good.  For the most part the small highways in the USA are better than the new highways in Mexico.
This guy was hauling a pretty good sized "tiny house" behind a big pick up truck at speed.  Good thing there isn't any wind.
Does this highway have enough names or numbers?
Coming into Boise and it was looking ominous up ahead.  We used to dread going through Boise because it was always under construction but now that there are up to 5 lanes at some points and it's a breeze.  We pick a middle lane and just stay there till we get to the other side.
Getting darker up ahead but there isn't any wind.
 The Boise River is high.
 Uh oh!
 Rain up ahead.
 Yup....welcome to Oregon and....
.....it's raining hard.  The big trucks are a misery when they pass as the swirl of wind and rain just about blinds you.  Can't imagine being in a small car.
Exit 356 and we got off to head into Catfish Junction on old highway 201.  Friend Croft blogged this park years ago and we've been staying there for the past few years as he gave it a good review.  Nice little Mom and Pop park right on the edge of the Snake River.
 Pretty wet.
We pulled into the park around 2:30 pm (Pacific daylight time) but it's 3:30 here even though they are in Oregon.  Some weird thing with a bend in the river and different time zones.  When we pulled in we decided to park behind the office where there is only power and water as we can dump when we leave on Monday morning.  There was an Easter egg dyeing party going on and today there is supposed to be an Easter egg hunt and a potluck.  We're positioned so we can see the river and scenery from our slide so it's all good.
It was raining for quite awhile but it didn't bother the kids as they were out buzzing around on scooters and having a great time.   The common building to the left of the picture is where they were all hanging out.  At one point a couple of guys went out to the edge of the river and started blasting their shotguns....what the heck!  I't a park full of kids and dogs and even if they hit a duck or whatever they were blasting at the dogs couldn't go in the fast running river to retrieve it.  Makes you wonder what people are thinking and yes, they were drinking beer at the time!

So it's Easter morning and the sun is trying to shine.  I don't see much activity outside because the wind is still howling although it's supposed to stop by tomorrow.  It blew like "hell" last night but we didn't get much rain.  The heater is running in the rig so....we must be moving north!

Happy Easter all...enjoy your family.

  1. We totally forgot about the time change this year but then like you we never change our time. The rain is very frustrating. We drive about 60 - 62 MPH as well on those roads.

    Happy Easter to you both.

  2. Beer and shotguns! A typical "American" combination! What could possibly go wrong? We found that park by chance one year when we wanted a day off the road and needed to dump. A nice, friendly spot.
