Lunch at La Corriente on the beach

Today we were off to a beachfront restaurant called La Corriente. Once again is somewhere that I have never eaten.  I have remarked before that Eric and I hardly ever eat out so this is a chance for me to eat at all sorts of different places.  Fun!

IMG_5315

We were all gathered at the front to take the green bus downtown and here came Sandi.  Doesn’t she look lovely….a vision in green.  Even her jacket matched.

IMG_5316

Today we will take the green bus as it travels along the malecon to where the restaurant is situated.

IMG_5317

11 of us and everyone hides in the shade while we wait for a bus.  We all have our jackets as we’ve been getting quite a bit of sea fog and it could be quite chilly at the beach restaurant.

IMG_5318

It is busier than I’ve ever seen it in the Golden Zone, along the malecon and downtown.   It’s the Christmas holidays for the Mexicans as well as the Gringos and there are tourists everywhere.    Okay, we are tourists too but we stay all winter so we’re a tiny bit different!  Since the road to Durango has been built many more people from the interior are coming to Mazatlan and the beaches are crowded and busy.  Good for the economy.

IMG_5320

We watched for Hotel DeCima on our left so we would know where to get off the bus.  The bus was completely full with hardly even any standing room left so it was hard to see where we were.

IMG_5321

Looking north up the malecon.

IMG_5322

Everyone heads south as we got off a bit ahead of where we needed to.

IMG_5323

Lots of people on the beach and…in the water.

IMG_5324

Down the stairs and into the restaurant.  We had a reservation for 12 so we were all seated in the same area.

IMG_5325

Usually we’d pick a table out of the sun but today it is windy and cool in the shade so we seated ourselves in the sun.

IMG_5326

Chips and salsa while we wait for our drink orders.

IMG_5327

Marion and Eddie.

IMG_5328

I tried something different today…a Jamaica Fizz which is made from dried hibiscus flowers and ….some sort of alcohol.   It was good and had a sort of earthy flavor to it.

IMG_5329

Bets had a margarita.

IMG_5330

Jeannette and Sandi split their usual bottle of red wine.

IMG_5331

That looks like some sort of a mango cocktail in front of Diane.

IMG_5332

So….drinks were served….food orders taken and then…we ate.   This a plate with more than one kind of taco.

IMG_5333

IMG_5334

More tacos.

IMG_5335

I ordered deep fried pargo (red snapper) which came with tacos, beans and guacamole.  Delicious.  I really like red snapper and Rosie my hairdresser here in Mazatlan says it’s her favorite….I agree!

IMG_5336

Diane’s meal served on a banana leaf.  Looks good, don’t you think?

IMG_5337

This is a shrimp burger with it’s lid on.

IMG_5338

This is Marion’s shrimp burger with it’s lid off.  Yummy!

IMG_5339

Eddie and Ruth shared some appetizer dishes and….

IMG_5340

then there was a big dish of guacamole.

IMG_5341

While we ate the holidayers swam in the ocean and enjoyed themselves.

In the end the sea fog didn’t arrive until around 2pm when we were finished lunch and by that time we were ready to hop a bus home.

Rating…..service good, food delicious and the ambiance was just lovely.  Worth eating here anytime.  It was busy in the restaurant but everything arrived in a timely manner and it was an enjoyable experience.

Next week…..somewhere up by the Shrimp Ladies.

Christmas 2016 in Mazatlan and Christmas 2015 in Terrace

It’s been a few days since Christmas and now that I’m not so nostalgic about it ….it’s time to reflect.

Those of you who know us and read my blog know that there were no blog postings last year except one at Christmas as we didn’t travel due to health issues.

IMG_3968

It’s a bit of tradition in our family to cut down our own Christmas tree.  When our girls were at home we would just tromp out into the bush that surrounds our house and cut one down.  Here you see Lauren (our daughter Erika’s niece) our younger daughter Erika and her daughter Abby.  We were at a local Christmas tree farm where you can cut any size or variety of tree that you want.

IMG_3974

Erika and husband Wade have a big living room so….she cut down a big tree.

IMG_3987

We had some lovely cold, crisp snowy weather last winter and it made the front yard look beautiful.

IMG_3992

Our little house on the farm looking like a Christmas postcard.

IMG_4003

See the 5th wheel tucked under one of Eric’s large buildings.  I’ll bet it wishes it was somewhere warm!

IMG_4008

Not to be left out….this is our other Terrace granddaughter Holly on Christmas day 2015.  She was home from university for the Christmas holidays.

IMG_4059

In April of this year I flew to Pittsburgh as did daughter Erika and her daughters Abby and Holly to visit with our older daughter Krista her husband Jeff and their children Shane and Ava.  This is a trip that I didn’t blog ….and probably should.  Here we are just getting ready to leave Pittsburgh and travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the Rolex three day event horseshow.  It was a great trip and a rare opportunity for us to visit together.

IMG_5277

Now here we are this year right back where we should be in the winter. That’s Eric going in for a swim.

IMG_5278

Looking north up the beach towards the Riu Hotel.

IMG_5279

Looking south.

IMG_5280

It was a bit rough this day and I let Eric tackle the waves without me.

IMG_5284

Look at this beautiful bougainvillea and you can see by the palm trees how windy it is.

IMG_5285

And now for Christmas 2016 in Mazatlan.  This is Christmas morning and things were being set up for the day’s dinner.  There was to be around 57 of us and this included park owner Felipe and his family as well as park workers Raphel and his family and the other park worker Genaro who came on his own.

IMG_5286

I was a bit late coming up front and Sandi, Jeannette and Frank had already had a good start setting up.

IMG_5287

We needed a large table for the food and tables for our guests.  Felipe provided four turkeys which Sandi, Cathy, Robyn and Jeannette cooked and the rest of us provided vegetables, salads, desserts etc.

IMG_5289

We gathered up front with our food at 4pm which is a bit early for home but here it gets dark early and cools off by 5:30 so we needed to get an early start.  The weather has cooled down lately and it is very windy.  At least that kept the biting bugs away!

IMG_5290

Most of the food has arrived and is waiting to be uncovered.

IMG_5291

The crowd is gathered and seated and having a drink before dinner.

IMG_5292

Everyone looks very festive and happy to be here.

IMG_5293

John chats to Reg.

IMG_5294

Eddie chats to Eddy!

IMG_5295

Bill, Rocky and Nancy with Dennis standing behind.

IMG_5296

Dennis and his wife Marilyn have left RVing behind and are now staying in a condo close by.  We are happy to have them join us along with Bets and Boomer who are also now in a condo.

IMG_5297

This is Roger, John’s twin brother and ….

IMG_5298

his wife Robyn.  This is Roger and Robyn’s first year RVing as they used to stay in a condo close by and they are both enjoying the RV experience.  Really nice people and they are parked close by out at the back of the park.

IMG_5300

This is Raphael’s youngest daughter, Regina (in Spanish Rayheena) who is 18 months old.  She is a daddy’s girl who wants to be in her Papa’s arms.  She was very uncertain about all the people smiling at her!

IMG_5302

This is Raphael’s family of woman!  Farther back you see Felipe and his wife and daughter Elizabeth.  Son Felipe Jr. is here as well but son Ulysses had to work at Felipe’s hotel since the staff was off for Christmas.

IMG_5303

Bill was asked to say grace.

IMG_5304

Our good friends Sandi and Frank.

IMG_5306

Marion and Fred are sitting with Reg and Pat.

IMG_5307

This is Bets.  She and husband Boomer are renting at the same condo complex as Dennis and Marilyn.  Bets misses the RV park and we miss her as well.  Times are changing and many people are exploring new ways of travelling to Mazatlan for the winter.  It is all a bit of a dance to find what works.

IMG_5309

Raphael chats to Diane while his younger daughter looks on.   Raphael has two older daughters and two younger ones.  Life is hard here in Mexico and he works hard to support his family.   He is a very nice man and we are happy to have him here.  Raphael works during the day and Genaro is here to watch over us at night.

IMG_5313

Felipe is chatting to Eric while Sid and Candy listen.  We didn’t know Sid and Cherry who are from Calgary but they were very pleasant dinner companions.  They have been travelling to Mexico for a very long time.

IMG_4507

I didn’t bother people with a group picture at dinner so I thought I’d include the Christmas beach picture taken a couple of weeks ago.

IMG_4520

Not everyone at the dinner is in the picture but….you get the idea!

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas with friends and family….treasure those moments and….

¡Feliz Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo!
