Neither one of us slept very well last night and we were up by 6:30 am. Time to hit the roads again and see what breaks today. Not even slightly funny! We'd really thought this would be an easy trip home with new springs and tires. Not fair at all.
Now they are picking more potatoes and putting them into bags. Hard heavy work!
Heading out of Los Mochis and the potatoes are moving.
Roads not too bad here.
Does that look safe to you? I'm thinking loose cattle grazing in the middle of the road is not!
We leave Sinaloa behind and head into Sonora where they are replacing all their roads with concrete highways so ....it should be better.
Concrete here.
Now we start the horrible switching from one side to another as they are not finished building all the bridges.
Do you see the size of that hole. The ruts were incredibly deep and just ridiculous.
I didn't take any pictures but at the agricultural stop they told us that we had to be sprayed for some bug. We said "no" we don't want to be sprayed as we are not commercial. A big discussion ensued and besides that we were required to pay 100 pesos whether we were sprayed or not. We finally paid to shut them up and then said " No spray." Bill and Carol had the same problem when they went through and he can even speak Spanish. Again ridiculous and later when we stopped I noted that they had sprayed us anyway as it was all over the windows!
On the Navojoa bypass. If it hadn't been a Saturday which is busy we'd have gone straight through town and ignored the bypass.
So how does a semi end up in the ditch on a straight stretch? Eric says he probably got the trailers whipping by changing lanes too quick or over correcting and it threw the tractor right off the road.
Heading onto the Obregon bypass.
The palo verde are in bloom.
We are leaving the bypass after paying our 425 peso toll and stopping for lunch. If we'd gone through town we would have hit the toll booth as you come out of town which is 200 pesos so really it only cost 225 pesos to use the bypass.
Yaqui territory. Eric says they would have better spent the money on something useful instead of a statue and an interpretive center. The concrete looks nice but it is already showing wear and none of the bridges are smooth. Every bridge is like riding a roller coaster!
I see the horse but where is the cowboy who should be watching the cows as the traffic whizzes by at 110 km per hour.
Now we are in Vicam and they have all the gaudy pottery here. Here the Yaqui are stopping people and trying to collect money for their cause of protection of their water rights. The supreme court has ruled in their favour but the Sonoran government has ignored the ruling and continues to divert water for agricultural use. The money they collect is supposed to be used for waging their war against the government.
Turning off to head through Empalme and then Guaymas.
They have finished most of the causeway repair over the ocean between Empalme and Guaymas. On a Sunday the whole area is busy with people out for a seafood lunch.
Heading into Guaymas.
In the end we made it to the Playa de Cortes RV park at about 3:30 pm. Another slow day on the road trying to protect what is left of our RV's running gear. No break downs today. Lots of RV's in the park and we had to park on the back row. Nice and quiet. So far 1950 pesos (about $140. Canadian) paid for tolls including the 100 pesos for "not getting sprayed"
Time for happy hour, supper and bed.
We avoided the spraying by driving to the other booth and ignored their instructions to drive into the spray booth. I did blog about that. Those back and forth switches with the pot holes were hell!
