So what's been happening over the past few days...well nothing earth shattering! Eric spent a lot of time resting trying to heal up from his fall just before we left Mazatlan and it turns out he didn't have a cold but just really bad allergies which he is always plagued with. I switched his allergy pills from Aerius which you can by over the counter in Canada but not in the USA to Xyzal which you can buy over the counter in the USA and not in Canada! Seems to be helping a little. While he rested I busied myself shopping. Easy in Laughlin as there is a small outlet mall within walking distance and I even got Eric in their to buy a couple of good pairs of flip flops. Hard to find good ones for men but he got a pair of Teva's and Sketchers too. That's a big deal for Eric as he's a one pair of anything at a time guy! I have to keep my wardrobe fresh for our ladies lunches in Mazatlan....right Ruth?
We didn't have the motorcycle out because Eric was feeling crummy at the beginning of our stay and then they said it was supposed to rain. Well....on Tuesday it really did!Everything got a real nice wash and it was kind of nice to hear some rain after our long dry winter in Mazatlan.
Really poured!
Wednesday dawned bright and clear. We had some really warm days while we were there but didn't feel the need to run the A/C as it cooled off nicely at night. A few times we've left Laughlin because the temps got up over 100F which is way too hot.
That's the newly shorn Eric. Found a barber yesterday and he got his spring hair cut. It's so much easier for him and I think he looks much younger without all that hair! Lots of guys in the Riverside RV park with long straggly hair, unshaven and living in old decrepit RV's. Don't want to be mistaken for one of them!
This is about 8:20 am this morning and we are on our way out of the park. Just under 200 miles to Alamo but we wanted to get an early start as it is a really long hill up Hwy 163 from Laughlin to Hwy 95 and you don't want to do it in the heat of the day.
Bye-bye Laughlin. A good shopping stop for us and usually a good place to do some motorcycle riding.
Up we go. About 18 miles total and the truck gets hot pulling the 5th wheel so Eric goes quite slow.
Seems to go on forever.
We don't want that burn at the edge of the road to be us! Get too hot and overheat and ....that's what happens. No bueno.
Heading north on Hwy 95 and we're coming into Searchlight which is another climb from where we joined highway 95 coming out of Laughlin. Windy too...and of course a head wind coming from the north.
The desert is pretty and the Joshua trees are nice and green.
Now that's a pretty one.
Heading down towards Las Vegas which you can see in the distance....smoggy!
Snow on " them thar hills!"
Huge areas of solar panels. Well they have enough sunshine here so they should take advantage of it.
Have I ever mentioned how much we hate going through Las Vegas ....well we do! Too much traffic and just plain stressful. I always breathe a sigh of relief when we get through. Today the traffic wasn't too bad.
That's the downtown area up ahead where ....we've never been and ....have no desire to do go. Each to their own!
Turn right for Salt Lake City....yes please!
We get off I 15/93 and head north on 93 towards Alamo, Ely and beyond. We stopped at the Love's station just as we exited and fueled up in the big truck lane. Way easier on the triple axle tires and they don't care where we get fuel.
Fueled up and heading north. Huge areas of solar panels and industrial areas out this way now. Farther up ahead there is a Las Vegas garbage dump where they are hauling a hugely long way.
Just love the rock formations.
Looks like a candy nougat bar.
We're heading north and the hay is heading south. Looks pretty nice! Lots of trucks hauling cattle today as well.
Just after 12 noon and we stopped for lunch at the Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge rest stop.
Lunch was done and we only had another 10 miles to go to get parked in Alamo at the Picket's RV park. It has new owners but they decided to just leave the name as Picketts. Nice new owners.
Coming into Alamo and we'll turn left just up ahead. We were into the park and set up by 1:30 so only a short day. Tomorrow it will be over 300 miles and we'll get an early start. We would usually stay two nights here but it's supposed to rain on Saturday afternoon so we'll just keep moving so we get through Jackpot before it hits.
I love driving thought that area. Glad you got to Alamo with no issues. I hope that the 300 miles today goes well.
