Laughlin, Nevada to Yuma, AZ and was a short 200 miles but a long day!

We were up early yesterday and on the road by about 9:30 AZ time or 8:30 NV time...confusing.  Only 200 miles but it seemed to go on for ever.

Good bye Laughlin.
We left via Bullhead City, AZ rather than Needles CA as the road on the California section rivals the worst Mexican roads!
We ended up on a convoluted journey through Golden Shores and Topok but we weren't in a hurry.  The Colorado River.

Entering California and they waved us through.  They're always looking for fruit.
See that piece of beautiful California road!
Heading south on 95 to Vidal junction instead of Lake Havasu as Havasu has a billion stoplights.
We you're heading north there's another California produce check.  We turn left to Parker AZ.
The Colorado River.

Highway 95 going south has small hills that are like Christmas ribbon candy. Up and dow, up and down...makes you almost seasick
Coming into Parker and over the Colorado
Parker where we stopped for fuel at the Love's at the south end of town. Pumps weren't working, the ladies was out of order and it was dirty!
Close to Quartzite and lunch.
The RV parks in Quartzite are quite full.

Here we're stopped for road construction. The flowers are still blooming.
We sat for about 1/2 hour here while no traffic passed either way
Traffic finally came from the south and then we followed a pilot car through about 5 miles of absolutely nothing happening. Cones down the middle and not one worker or machine to be seen!!  Unbelievable...never seen anything like it!!
Look at those mountains.
Finally heading south.
Getting closer to Yuma and the crops start to appear.  The fields must be leveled and plowed with laser technology.
Cotton bales.
Looks like cement but it's cotton.
Bales and more bales.
Need any broccoli 🥦?

We arrived at the Howard Johnson Motel in Yuma about 4pm and checked in.  We stayed here back 2019/2020 and it was good...not now.  The young woman on the desk was excellent.  Our room is tired and not as clean as I'd like as well as smelling like smoke in a non smoking room.  This morning the continental breakfast was almost non existent  and the lobby needs cleaning.  It seems since Covid everything has gone down hill.  Last night's dinner ended up being at Rolls and Bowls which is new to us but good.  We like the Asian Star but it's closed on Mondays so we'll eat there tonight.  So far the casino rooms have been the best.

Today we went to the border to get our tourist visas and import papers and it was a new experience but more about that tomorrow as I'm tired and need 🍺 🍻 🍺!  We're of to Nogales,AZ tomorrow...another 300 miles.

  1. How exciting! We tossed around the idea of Quartzsite, but the fuel would be around $1200 r/t. That would be fine but we wouldn't have stayed long enough to amke it worth it. Have a safe crossing and trip onward!

    1. We boondocked out in BLM land in Quartzite for 10 days back in March 2009. We didn't have a propane heater and damn near froze to death. We also couldn't figure out what people did all winter! Each to their own😉
