It was Wednesday morning and time to get back on the road as the weather looked decent. It's been three years since we've driven south and we're happy we are. Going our usual route this year but the first time staying in motels so it will be exploratory.
8am and leaving Kelowna
Travelling south from Kelowna to Osoyoos and the border.
Everyone is in the truck lane as the car lanes aren't open
I'm always nervous that they will pull everything apart even though they won't find anything.
Welcome to Washington and they didn't ask anything but the usual drugs, alcohol questions and what's in the trailer...yahoo and onward.
Our usual "cheap" fuel stop in Omak and it was more than at the border!
Left on 177 down to the Coulee Dam and up to Dry Falls and dow to all the small lakes below.
Small volcanic hills.
Left down towards Coulee City and then right onto 17 again and Dry Falls and Soap Lake.
My driver!
So pretty through here and I always retake pictures.
Lake Lenore.
Left to Moses Lake.
Hmm...I wonder what that is?
Through Pasco where I didn't take pictures and on to Pendleton.
Old grain elevator?
There's snow on "them thar hills"
Coming down into Pendleton. Our stop for the night was at the Motel 8. Unfortunately it was old and dirty for $100. Lots more motels in the area. Off the list for next year and I'll give it a bad review. Ordered a taco pizza and it wasn't very good either but it's all a learning experience. We miss the RV😔 However the roads and drive were good.
As you've probably noticed I like to take pictures so there are always lots on my blog. I'm using my new Samsung A52 cell phone and I can't believe how good the pictures are at speed through the truck window. Technology 😁
Interesting sky in all your pictures today; even the sky behind your driver. Sorry about your motel room but you will have another chance tonight for a better one. Traveling mercies all the way to Mazatlan.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy. We're tucked in Jackpot Nevada and found a good one😊
DeleteKathy, the best ones along the road for quick overnights (cheapest to a little more expensive) are Holiday Inn Express, Marriott Fairfield, and Hilton Gardens. We lean toward Marriott Fairfield on west coast because there are more of them as Marriott’s headquarters is in Utah. They greet us upon check in with warm chocolate chip cookies and a nice hot cup of coffee; we are not big breakfast eaters except for coffee and orange juice, but I load zip lock bags with individually wrapped blueberry muffins, bagels and cream cheese, and a couple of apples and bananas (for a break on the road), and refills of coffee and orange juice. All of this is free with your room (which I usually request on the bottom floor).
DeleteMotel 8s across the US are usually for truck drivers and, sorry to say, have a lot of “pavement princesses” hanging around; cleanliness isn’t the only problem, Motel 8s are unsafe.
Kathy, got a new computer and having problems; what I see is Anonymous; this is Dee Tillotson Summerville, SC.

ReplyDeleteKathy, we arrived In Mazatlan yesterday after 35 days on the road. I did almost all our stays thru booking.com. I became a master at reading reviews. We prefer mom & pop motels that you can park right outside the door. We stayed in brand new Motel 8s, La Quintas, Hampton inns, Holiday Inns, etc even a newly renovated Motel 6 and had really good experiences. Read lots of reviews and between the lines. Have a safe trip…it’s so nice to be back in Maz!
ReplyDeleteCarol, agree with you on the Holiday Inn Express especially since, in some, you can park right outside your motel room door; so convenient. Dee Tillotson, Summerville, SC
