This afternoon’s gathering for potato night was a small one. Geri had decided to keep her guest list small (about 18) and we were lucky enough to be invited. This size of event really suits Eric who really doesn’t enjoy the large crowd ones. Next week Marion and Pat are hosting a Canada 150th anniversary potluck party and the whole park will attend. Fun too.
We all gathered at about 4pm for happy hour with potato cooking to follow. We did attend one of these events a couple of years ago and had to be informed as to what we should do. Here’s how it goes. Precook your potato (microwave for me and then onto the barbecue to finish) so it is hot and ready to be dressed. We all brought a condiment that Geri had prearranged and then we were ready to go. Two barbecues were hot and when we were ready to eat we loaded up our spuds. Geri had made a big pot of chili and there was cheese, bacon bits (freshly done), jalepenos, onions etc. etc. and it was all dumped on. At that point it goes back on the barbecue to heat up and melt all the tasty goodies.
Dick and Val are parked next to John and Geri and her site is just lovely. I told her that I was giving her the “Better Homes and Garden’s award” for best site. She laughed and said “ Come back when my hibiscus is blooming!” Our site on the other hand looks like we are just staying overnight as I garden so much at home that I just can’t be bothered here. Each to their own but her’s looks way better than mine.
Dick, Val, Jeannette and Marion. That’s Bill leaving and I think they have a previous engagement and couldn’t stay.
Last winter when we were at home Eric let his hair grow long. Funny enough the woman really liked it. They kept doing what Geri is doing…touching it and telling him it looked good! Or maybe she’s telling him he needs a haircut…I don’t really know.
Last winter’s hair and it got much longer before he started riding the motorcycle again and got it cut. He kept telling me that it was a “Babe Magnet!” Go figure.
The barbecues are heating and we are all having a drink and socializing. This size of group makes that much easier.
I spied Anita’s new footwear and told her I thought she looked very Egyptian. My little fat feet with bunions can’t wear pretty shoes like that.
John and Geri’s dog Remington or Remi for short. She was sitting next to Jeannette and when she looks up at you with her soft eyes you just have to pat her. Geri kenneled her while we ate. A very nice well behaved dog.
Richard and Boomer chat. Bets, Anita (of the shoes) and her husband John.
So remember the method for dressing your potato. Well Eric, ever the rebel couldn’t see any reason for putting it back on the barbecue and just got right to eating it. He said it was hot and delicious.
Here is the crowd loading up their spuds to be reheated.
The chili went right on top.
That’s Dick manning one of the barbecues.
Pat’s dressed potato.
Carole brought a fruit plate and it went very nicely with the potatoes. How colorful is that.
That’s my potato and I might add that I managed to get it all over my jeans.
I brought butter and a dessert. The home made one on the left is Bets’ and the Sam’s club chocolate Tres leche’s one on the right is mine. Today was shopping day and I was too tired to bake. Both desserts were delicious.
Small slices were all we needed and there was even some to take home.
The sun is starting to go down and we are treated to a beautiful sunset.
Still time for a little socializing after dinner.
A really nice evening and we even stayed until 7pm….wow that was pretty late!
Thanks John and Geri it was fun.
Oh really, YOU getting it all over yourself... what a surprise!
