Ladies Lunch at the Liverpool Mall/ La Alitas

Today we were supposed to have lunch downtown at a restaurant near the Shrimp Ladies but someone told Ruth that they weren’t open until 1pm.  Why should that matter?  Well, Ruth had ordered a red truck for 11:30 and we’d be too early.  Some people don’t like to take the bus and prefer a red truck but I actually enjoy the bus ride.  In addition Ruth wasn’t feeling well and wasn’t coming to lunch so an alternate destination had been picked.  Now we were going to the Liverpool Mall to eat at one of their restaurants and at this point I was already getting cranky about the whole thing and should have gone home.   But I didn’t and….off we went.

The mall is still beautifully decorated for Christmas and the brown tree with pink lights is actually a metal sculpture that probably looks lovely when it’s lit up at night.

We all trooped in to find the today’s destination and since we were very early for lunch we found that it and most of the restaurants except for the Italian one that we ate at two years ago didn’t open until 12:30.  So…we seated ourselves in the Italian one and then found out it was still serving breakfast so we left.  Now I really just wanted to go home and forget the whole thing.

In the end we seated ourselves outside and waited.  We were given menus from Las Alitas and it was apparent that they were a hamburger joint which is not my idea of ladies lunch out.  There was also another bar/restaurant and an El Fish along with the Italian one and in the end we could have ordered from any of them but we didn’t know that.

This is the restaurant that we ordered from.

We probably should have eaten inside as there wasn’t much ambiance sitting here.

Hamburger and chips and chicken and chips.

Sandi has taken the lid of her burger and is looking at it suspiciously.

Mosella ordered this meal from the bar/restaurant and she said it was very good.

This is my meal and I ate the breaded jalepenos, the cheese sticks,  the wings and a couple of the crunchy potatoes at the bottom of the plate along with a carrot.  Should have eaten the veggies and left the rest!   The fries were soggy with a vinegary gravy and the pressed chicken buffalo wings were inedible.  I thought that by ordering a variety plate that it might be better than a burger but most of it must have come out of a box.  Cost for my meal with a beer and a modest tip…220 pesos.

That’s Mosella who made the best choice eating her meal while the rest wait for their burgers.

More chicken, fries and onion rings.

So….the whole experience was a “ thumbs down!”

To be fair to the staff the service was good and it’s not their fault that the food wasn’t up to par.

The overall consenus was that it was generic mall food and we won’t be back.  Some of the ladies  thought we should return and eat at the restaurant that Mosella ordered from but that is not the way the ladies lunch is set up.

Everyone gets a choice, we write it on a slip of paper and then each week a draw is made for the following week.  There was also discussion that if a restaurant is not open until 1pm and we want to eat there that we would just leave later so we didn’t arrive too early.

Every time Ruth isn’t with us we end up in a mess!

I think we will try the restaurant that we were supposed to eat at today next week because it sounds like it was actually open at noon.

It is this cub reporter’s opinion that the whole outing was a disaster!

  1. How disappointing, especially after some of the beautiful lunches you ladies have had in the past! Hopefully better luck next week.
