Off to Vancouver

Wednesday, April 9th.

This morning we packed our bags and got the rig ready to be left on it’s own while we were away in Vancouver.  This time we shut all the windows, pulled in the slides and left the A/C on at 80 F to protect the food inside and outside the fridge.

Bill picked us up at 1:30 and we were off to the airport in Yuma.  A quick 38 minute flight to Phoenix and a four hour lay over there.  This was okay because it allowed us time to eat and have a couple of beers.  The flight to Vancouver was 3 hours and we were in at 11:30 pm which, although late does allow for easy travel because there isn’t much traffic at that time of night.  Eric’s brother Brian (Barney) and wife Fran picked us up and we were off.

They live below Simon Fraser University in a nice town house where we will have our own bedroom and bathroom so we’ll be comfortable.  It was a late arrival so everyone was ready for bed.

Thursday, April 10th.

Outside at Barney and Fran’s.  It is spring in Vancouver and lots of trees are blooming.

After breakfast we were off to pick up the alcoholic refreshments for the get together at Kathryn and (husband) Gary’s after the service. Kathryn is Eric’s sister and only girl in their family….poor thing!

Kathryn’s house in New Westminster.  She was cleaning when we arrived and didn’t want me to take her picture.

She is really happy to see her big brother Eric.

Kathryn’s oldest daughter Caitlin was home so we all sat around and had a chat.  Kathryn and Gary have a lovely old heritage home.

Gary came home and we all decided to head over to a local pub on 6th street and have lunch.

I grew up on 10th Ave. in Burnaby between 2nd and 4th street so I spent a lot of time in this area when I was a kid.  All our shopping was done at Woodward’s (where I later had a high school job packing groceries so I could buy hamburgers for Eric) and also down on Columbia street shopping at Eaton’s, Army & Navy and various other stores.  Very nostalgic for me!

Everyone has an I Phone!  I think this is Caitlin’s.

We had a really pleasant lunch together and it was really nice to catch up before tomorrow’s busyness.

Back to Barney and Fran’s for happy hour and dinner.

Barney and Fran at the table.  Sorry about the date stamp….new camera!  I’ll turn it off.

We had a nice evening together and tomorrow will be a busy day.
