Los Mochis to Playa de Cortez

Last night we had a really nice dinner in the La Pilirica restaurant in Los Mochis.  We’ve eaten here a couple of times before and my meals were good but Eric had the worst hamburger he has ever eaten in his life on a previous occasion.  Last night we both had “ Filete de Pescado a la Veracruzana” and the fish fillet in peppers, onions, tomatoes and olives was really good.

P1060375

Lots of truck drivers eating, playing pool, having a shower and doing their laundry.

P1060374

Looks pretty pristine this morning but the truck is covered in dust as the semis leave clouds of dust in the air especially with the afternoon winds.

P1060371

It was packed in this lot last night….now not so much.

P1060376

Gas station, “pension” or free gated parking lot, restaurant and hotel.  Too bad it’s so dusty.

P1060377

Heading out of Los Mochis towards Navajoa.

P1060378

Wear your seatbelt!

P1060379

What do you know….another toll already for really crappy road!

P1060380

P1060381

This one 159 pesos.

P1060382

And away we go.

P1060384

What might you find on a Mexican freeway….well cows.  They did have a caballero on a horse with them but…. how much good does that do.

P1060385

Welcome to Sonora we are now leaving Sinaloa.

P1060386

An agricultural inspection.  Checking the pigs and looking for fruit.

P1060387

It’s hot and I doubt these pigs are very comfortable.

P1060391

First fuel stop.  12.95 pesos for a litre.  The pump says 62 liters and ….

P1060392

The truck says 58 liters.  Somebody is making money.

P1060394

See that pavement.  We are now in Sonora and it is bad.  They are always repaving and it never lasts.

P1060396

So guess what….we pay another toll!

P1060397

This time 179 pesos.  Eric says we should just throw money out the window as we drive!

P1060399

No tractors allowed on the highway….just a suggestion.

P1060393

That load of bricks looks well tied down!!!

P1060400

Entering Navajoa.

P1060401

Tacos anyone.

P1060402

A really clean, pretty town with “13”  stop lights.

P1060404

This guy was selling newspapers like they do at most stop lights.  At one point he was having a little nap while he stood there in traffic!

P1060405

Beautiful.

P1060406

We are through Navajoa and now….a concrete highway to Obregon.  Bueno, Bueno, Bueno !!!

P1060407

But there were …cows at the edge of the road and a lot more than I managed to catch a picture of. P1060408

Flat and smooth.P1060409

So this time you don’t mind paying a toll…..okay a little but at least it’s worth it.   P1060410

170 pesos this time.  P1060411

A truck load of logs…..where the heck did they come from? P1060412

What is that I see up on the right? P1060413

How else do you carry bales on hay in Mexico….on your moto of course!

P1060414

Coming into Obregon.   P1060415

Grain elevators on our way around Obregon.P1060416

Hay for sale out of the back of a truck. P1060417

And ….we’re out.   P1060418

Doubles of …..who knows. P1060419

And….another toll….who knew. P1060420

What shall they charge?

P1060421

That told us what we paid, then it said Bien Viaje then it was gone.   P1060422

Right after the toll booth we stopped for lunch at the Pemex and spied this huge load on the back of a low bed.   P1060423

 P1060424

Eric decided we should hurry lunch and hit the road as if we were behind this ….we couldn’t get by.  P1060425

We are past Obregon and the highway is now…..no bueno again!

P1060428

Driving through Vicam and there is nothing I want to buy.  P1060429

Where the heck would I put that chair? P1060430

Mamma and Niño trying to cross the highway……always a challenge. P1060431

I bought the “On the Road Again” downloads a few years ago and printed them off.  Since then we continue to make notes about fuel stops, toll fees and anything else of importance.  P1060433

We are now in the Sonoran desert and it is sandy and dry. P1060434

We got off the toll road at Empalme on our way to Guayamas and the Hotel de Cortez RV park in Miramar.   P1060435

A Ferro Carril exhibit on the free road by Empalme.

P1060436

The wharves where the pangas tie up when they come in to unload in Empalme.

P1060437

Causeway from Empalme to Guaymas  P1060438

The bypass around Guaymas that takes you past the airport so you don’t have to go through the city.  Today Eric decided to go through Guayamas and it was fine.   P1060439

Coming into Guayamas.  P1060440

Huge decorative wall on our way in.  P1060441
