It is the beginning of January and we haven’t had an eating event for let’s see….about 10 days so it must be time.
Every year John and Jeri host a fish fry and Jeri decided it was time. Manny prepares and cooks the French fries, John buys the Dorado and cuts it up and Jeri and Millie deep fry it. Jeri invites everyone and keeps a list and of what is needed and the rest of us bring it.
We arrive around 4pm for Happy Hour and the table is empty but it will soon be full.
This is the money can. 50 peso's each to cover the cost of the fish, potatoes and deep fry oil. A bargain!
Sandi has her glass of wine as we gather for happy hour.
Connie, Manny (the King of fries!) and his friend Fred who is visiting from Las Vegas.
That’s Wendy talking about something up there somewhere.
Frank (standing) chats to Dennis and Ron (aka…Jack!)
This is a picture of Eddie (on the right) and Betty (next to her) and Betty’s daughter and grand daughter who are visiting from Fort St. John, B.C. Her grand daughter is 15 and last night she had the thrill of going to bingo with us retirees and now she’s at a fish fry with us so she is allowed to read a book!
One week holiday in Mexico for them and luckily the weather is great. Today Eddie and her family climbed up to the El Faro Lighthouse. I haven’t done it since we first started coming but I will tell you it is a very steep climb. A large group from the park did this climb on Monday ( I was too tired) and now Eddie did it again. A big week.
Picture and blurb below it are from the net….
The best view in Mazatlán gets you some exercise, too—a 30- to 45-minute climb along natural trails and rough-hewn stairs to the lighthouse that since 1571 has been warning ships from atop Cerro del Creston, 515 feet above the sea. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.
And now….back to the fish fry.
Eric and Ursula. Ursula and her husband Max will leave with Regina and her husband Gunter for a trip south on Sunday. They will return at the end of February. Really nice people and good neighbors (they have been parked across the road from us since we arrived.)
Eric and I enjoy happy hour.
Manny has his apron on and he’s checking everything before he starts to fry.
The Dorado is all cut up and ready to go.
That’s Millie on the left taking the fish out of the oil and Jeri on the right. I promised Jeri I wouldn’t put a poorly taken picture of her on the Blog so I cropped her out and used this one.
The fries are ready to go….
and now they’re sizzling!
Dick welcomes us and reminds everyone to “peso up” in the can.
Bill (in yellow) says a really nice Grace.
We queue up to eat.
Fries and fish at the beginning of the table and all the fixings and dessert at the other end. I brought sweet and spicy red onions and guacamole with some bite.
Jeannette, Hal and Helene enjoy dinner.
This is my plate and it looks like I won’t go hungry! Very colorful and really delicious.
Karin, Klaus, Ursula and Max chat and eat.
Everyone is fed, even the cooks and so now they can relax. A super job and well appreciated by all.
The sun is starting to set and it is cooling off.
Almost dark and the ladies gather in a circle for a little chat and a cocktail.
The bugs are starting to bite and Eric and I head home. Another really nice meal with really nice people. We are very lucky and yes….life is good!
