El Capitolo for Ladies Lunch...another winner!

Wednesday we ladies were off to El Capitolio for lunch.  This is a relatively new restaurant that is located on the very north end of the Golden Zone.  The reviews on the Foodies facebook site were good so I thought we should give it a try.  Not just a steak house!

As usual some came by bus together and some by themselves.  Here we are gathered outside and on this day we were 11 in total.

Chantal, Georgia and Ruth.

A very elegant and tastefully decorated restaurant and I think everyone felt a little under dressed except for Georgia in her cute dress!

All seated and waiting for the drink and wine list.  I noticed the conversation was a bit hushed to start in response to the very quiet restaurant.  We had them turn down the A/C a bit and lower the music volume so we could talk.  They did change the music station as soon as we arrived and put on an "oldies" station.  Too Funny!

A very extensive drink and wine list.  Our waiter spoke English and when I asked him how long he'd been waiting he said " 40 years!"  A lucrative job if you are good at it.  The waiters always wish we would have one tab but that is never going to happen...just silly in my mind.  He did number us when we promised not to change seats.

An extensive menu with what I would call reasonable prices for the venue but that is always rated after we've eaten.

The waiter and the bartender discussing drinks.

Liz and Diane in deep discussion of the menu!

Right away everyone liked the restaurant even before they got drinks or food.

Two mango mules (non alcoholic) and Ruth's drink.  Ruth said non alcoholic drinks were for sissies...haha!
My "sissy" drink...very delicious...100 pesos!
Chantal's pina colada.

Marilyn and Sandi's Hill Salad served on an angle...hence the hill name.  Very good.

Mar's Coliseum Salad served in a fancy " coliseum" dish.  All of these different serving dishes got a laugh out of everyone.

Zarandeli shrimp for Ruth.

Chantal had Picana tacos which were beef and served with a chimichurri sauce.  Chantal added guacamole and said they were very good.

Ruth's grilled shrimp were served on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes.

Georgia's lunch.  Under the dome is the Capitolio salmon which is smoked at the table.

Some sort of bunsen burner apparatus is lit and the tube going to the dome creates smoke for the salmon.  We got a real laugh out of whole procedure which didn't go quite according to plan.

Lots of smoke!  Georgia and Ruth shared lunch.  Georgia thought the salmon was a bit over cooked and could have used a sauce but still very good.

Both Susie and I ordered the Rib Eye sandwich which was served on this giant Capitolio case.  A bit over the top for what is basically a hamburger with fries.  I don't usually order an entree with bread because I find it goes gooey which I hate.  I ordered this because it was supposed to be on a Ciabatta bread which is chewier.  Unfortunately it was a regular hamburger bun.  The Rib eye was tasty with delicious toppings. It had a bit of gristle but nothing that stopped us from eating it.

Good to hide behind if you don't like who's across the table from you!

Connie likes a meatless pasta and she oredered the Fussilli Bloody Mary which was flamed with vodka.  Again,,,very good.

Liz and Diane look like they didn't like their rib eye sandwiches but really they did.  Smile ladies!

Ruth and Georgia's shared their salmon and shrimp lunches.  Ruth took some home for dinner.

All in all it was a very successful lunch and everyone was up for coming back here to eat.  When the checks came the waiter had to separate them into individual tabs but it was no issue.  We also received a 15% discount coupon for a future visit.  By the time we finished up after arriving at 1pm it was 3pm and more diners were arriving.

Lots of good food and chat and another successful lunch at a new restaurant.

They set the TV to show a fireplace while relaxing music played.

Very elegant clean restrooms as well.

Thumbs up!
