Hickiwan Trails RV Park, Why,Az. to Quail Run RV Park, Quartzite, Az.

Easter Sunday and time to hit the road for Quartzite.  We think we’ll stay there in an RV park for a few days.  My baby sister Joy and husband Wilbur are RVing in the Indian Waters RV resort in Indio,Ca and we might ride over for a quick visit.

> Mainmap

An easy day of 186 miles so we didn’t need a real early start.  We usually stop in Yuma on our way home but not this time.  I have some shopping to do but I can do that when we get to Laughlin.

Packed up and heading north on Highway 85 towards Gila Bend.

After a quick fuel stop in Gila Bend we get back on 85 north to I 10 where we’ll head west to Quartzite.

As we got into Buckeye there were signs of agriculture.  Fresh alfalfa being mowed.  Smells lovely.

We’re on I 10 now and there is a lot of traffic.  I’d thought it would be quiet today because it’s Sunday but there was lots of traffic including RV’s.  Maybe because they were already going home after the long weekend.  In Canada Monday is a holiday as well but not here in the USA.

We stopped for lunch at the rest stop noted on the above sign.  We pulled in and I noticed a trim grey haired woman getting into a small grey car with Oregon plates and it sure looked like my friend Millie from Mazatlan.  I walked over to take a peek in the car and yes, it was her.  How likely is it that we would both leave from different destinations and end up at this rest stop at exactly the same time.  1 million to 1….probably!  We had a quick hi and a hug and she said she’d just come out of Mexico that morning.   Millie played cards with our Las Jaibas ladies every Tuesday afternoon all winter.  A nice lady.

Heading down the long highway and Quartzite is up ahead.

So here we are in the Quail Run RV park in Quartzite.  We headed north on 95 driving slowly and decided to come in here because there were paved streets and sites out back that weren’t right on the road.   So what did it cost.  Summer rates ….$30.  minus $3 for Good Sam.  Not much of a deal for a place like Quartzite but what can you do.  One hour of free (slow) internet per day and coin operated showers!  Eric calls it “ chicken shit” when you nickle and dime for things like showers.   Hickiwan was $19 and had slow internet and free showers.

The guy who guided us in (Eric hates being helped!) said he and his dog are the only ones in the park during the summer.  Last summer it got up to 129F.  You can have that!

There we are all by our lonesome.  Nice and quiet except for the barking dogs in the trailer trash park next door.  A snooty comment…yes but that’s what it is!

All right Big Red get out of there.  We are going to ride to Indio tomorrow so it’s time to unload.

IMG_0338

Easy unload because the back door was almost on the pavement.  Loose gravel isn’t any fun for the bike.

Tomorrow off to Indio for lunch with Joy and Wilbur.

P.S. -  it’s over 30C and that’s too hot for us.
