Today we were off to Indio to see my sister Joy and her husband Wilbur. They are staying in the Indian Waters RV park for six weeks and at a 120 miles they are close enough for a visit.
On the road just after 8am. We want to get there early enough for a visit. That’s the RV park behind us.
Heading west on I 10. A freeway is not a favorite ride for us but it’s the only way to get to Indio. Okay we could have gone north to Parker, west to Vidal Junction and then around the Joshua Tree Park but that would be a way longer ….about 250 miles.
Coming into California and there’s an Ag check stop. We were waved through.
Alfalfa growing here. The Colorado River is close by.
We stopped for fuel and it’s another buck a gallon in California.
I guess I know where the alfalfa is coming from.
Stark but pretty.
57 miles to Indio. The speed limit is 75 and the trucks were roaring by us. We were doing about 65 and they are supposed to be doing 55mph! It was already windy and I was ducking down to avoid getting thrown around. It’s not fun on the freeway and not if we are doing 75….so we don’t. Joy had warned us that it had been really windy in Indio over night.
Looks like smog but it turned out to be dust.
Grapes I think.
We got off on Golf Center Parkway and headed into Indio. Eric had the route mapped out and was running our TomTom GPS on the bike. He has a special gas tank lid that has a GPS bracket for the TomTom.
Wow…I guess everyone has gone home. Pretty quiet.
This is where Joy and Wilbur are staying. Previously they have stayed in Palm Springs but it’s even more expensive that Indio. We’re a way too cheap for this area and besides…we don’t golf!
Hot and sunny and we were ready for a good visit. We did bring shorts and flip flops so we didn’t roast. Joy said it was so windy last night that the RV was really rocking and she was worried about the big tree right behind them. This is a really windy area.
Joy and her children! Buddy on her lap and Kola at her feet. Both dogs were adopted from shelters in Canada. Kola is a good, well behaved girl and Buddy is a handful. I think he’s just way too smart for his own good!
Wilbur and Joy drove down a few weeks ago and then Wilbur flew home to return to work. Joy is retired from Telus and Wilbur is not. He was supposed to fly back on the 7th of April but Joy was bored and lonely so he came back a week early. What a nice husband! They will be in Indio until the third week of April.
Eric is like a big brother to Joy as we have been married since she was 5 years old. Our Dad had passed away when Joy and Wilbur were married and Eric gave her away.
Joy and Wilbur started out with a used camper, upgraded to a new camper and now have a new 5th wheel. They are doing it right by getting lots of practice while they are still young. They already have lots of experience and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in Mexico in a few years!
A pretty spot. This is a typical RV park in this area with swimming pools, hot tub and lots of geezer activities. Not our bag but lots of people like it. Joy said golf is cheap here only $45 each to play. Yikes…that’s like $120 Canadian.
Me and my baby sister. I was 13 when she was born and she thought I was her mother as well as our Mom. She was a cute little girl and as the youngest of 4 girls she was a tad bit spoiled! She grew up to be a really nice woman and my friend as well as my sister.
Joy and Wilbur fed us a lovely lunch of homemade nachos, kebobs and fresh fruit. Along with that we had lots of catch-up chat and a really good visit but now it’s time to hit the road home. Bye-bye!
We fueled up down the road and then back on the freeway.
It’s a long climb out of Indio to the Chiriaco Summit. Indio is at 13 ft. and the summit is 1750. Lots of really slow trucks to pass.
Baby date palms.
I heard and then saw a low flying plane and thought we were next to an airport but it turns out it was a crop duster flying over the alfalfa field.
Yes…he was spraying for something.
The Colorado River.
Not too far to go now.
Back home by 5ish and ready for a cold beer. Soup for supper tonight after that big lunch.
A good day!
A long but fun day. Nice for your sister to see you.
