Today were off to Laughlin, NV and the Riverside RV park….or so we thought! I’d checked the Laughlin events earlier in the week and noted there the Polaris UTV world championships were taking place. I didn’t worry about it plugging up the RV park because we’d been there last year while it was going on and it wasn’t an issue.
Not far too go today so we didn’t need a real early start. On the road by 9am.
130 miles.
Over the bridge at Parker and into California.
Left for Vidal Junction and 95 north.
Heading north and you can see the ribbon candy highway. It’s like being on a roller coaster. I wondered why they didn’t make it flat but Eric said they’d need a culvert at every dip so they just made left it rolling.
New pavement here.
Pretty rocks.
We are through Needles and heading north to Laughlin and the old Needles highway is atrocious as usual. It’s been like this since we started coming and you’d think it couldn’t get worse but….
it does.
Agriculture of fto the east where the Colorado River is.
As soon as you cross the border the highway gets better….
….and better.
Coming down Casino Drive.
The whole strip here is all…..casinos.
Now for the interesting part. It was about noon and 30 plus degrees when we pulled into the Riverside RV park. I was so hot and astounded by what we saw that I didn’t even take a picture. It was packed to the gunnels! In all the time we’ve been coming here it’s never been this full. I guess the UTV championships really filled up the park. We parked, had a look around and then went to the office to check in. We had a new employee and he told us there was “nothing” available. Well not actually nothing as there were right hand spots that are meant for a motorhome to pull into. On the lower level gravel area they went cheap on the hook-ups and put the left and right on the same pedestal. This means if you back into a right hand spot you have to pull your services diagonally “under” your rig to reach the hook-ups. Not possible for us. So now what! Eric said we should go across the river and try the Davis Camp.
When we got there I must admit I felt hopeless about getting a spot as it looked full and it was Friday as well but we got lucky. They actually had a pull thru for $30 per night and we booked three days. It is a bit rustic as there are no concrete pads and it’s right next to the highway but….beggars can’t be choosers…right!
We’ll go over to the Riverside tomorrow and see if they have a week starting Monday after the big event is over.
Davis Camp on the Arizona side of the river in Bullhead City. The RV park is located just south or downstream of the Davis dam.
So here we are in Davis Camp.
Lots of spots with rigs of varying sizes from Arizona to Minnesota.
Some green areas.
Looking over the bank and there is just a big swamp between the park and the river.
I walked down to the south end of the park where the tent camping and boat launch is and it’s right on the Colorado River. The north end has camping on the river as well.
Looking down river to the casinos on the other side of the bridge.
Green area.
That’s us in the middle. To the left of us is a giant toy hauler from Wyoming with a UTV, motorcycle on a trailer pulled by the car and possibly a boat as he also has an outboard motor. Who has time to use all of that!
Hot…A/C running full blast and time a shower, cold beer, dinner, TV and bed.
Tomorrow we’ll do a little shopping and check out our options for the rest of the week.
We have stayed in Davis Camp. IT is better than nothing. Turned out that the neighbors were long lost relatives of Colin.
