San Blas

We were off on our final road trip of the week this morning.

Today’s route from Rincon to San Blas.  A pretty drive.

We always notice these beautiful fruit, plant and vegetable stands as we drive along the highway and today we stopped for a look.

Mountains of fresh, cheap, delicious fruit.

Bananas hanging everywhere.  We like the manzana (apple) bananas so I bought some and a pineapple as well. 

Breadfruit.  An interesting and highly useful species that is worth a read.  How tasty it is I’m not sure!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadfruit 

On the road in Las Varas…drive your tractor to town.

Heading through Zacualapan ….pollo on the barbecue anyone.

Drive your tractor to town here too.  Eric saw a huge combine at the Pemex fueling up.  Amazing what you’ll see here.

Getting farther north near Los Plantinos and now we see the ocean.  Cool and lovely.

These horses begrudgingly moved off the road.  Nice animals and they probably escaped as their owners wouldn’t want them to be run over.  They value their horses in Mexico.

You will never go hungry in Mexico.  In Atacama piles of wood ready for the barbecue.  In this area fish, lobster (crayfish), shrimp and oysters are being grilled everywhere.

So…we made it to San Blas and it was time for lunch.  Eric was dying to have grilled Marlin so we stopped at a roadside restaurant as we were entering San Blas.  We are eating at a place across from where we ate two years ago.

Looks delicious. Grilled Marlin and or tuna but Eric said it wasn’t as good as what he had at the restaurant across the street but  it sure tasted good to me.

This little guy was getting a ride before his little cousin (?) got to leave on it for a party of some sort. 

This is the grill where the fish and langouste's (langosta’s in Spanish) are cooked.  Linda and I split an order of langouste or langosta (supposed to be lobster but actually crayfish.)  Four split and grilled with garlic butter for 200 pesos.  Sorry but another complaint about lunch.  Not very tasty, dry and not much to eat.  Oh well, I wanted to try it and now it’s off my list.  There were plenty of greens, rice and left over grilled fish so we had plenty to eat.  The total bill including four beers was only 320 pesos so a pretty cheap lunch for 4 people…..we gave them 400 pesos.

We took a drive into San Blas after lunch to have a look around.  The main street has been redone and is smooth and beautiful.

Wow ….that’s a quiet, flat street but where are the people.

McDonald Restaurant since 1952 and bar.  Gringo’s perhaps! All the business’s had new and similar signs.

Hacienda’s Flamingo’s Hotel.  I looked at their web site and it looks quite beautiful with lovely facilities.

We drove around the west edge of San Blas along the fish docks and then as we were heading out of town we saw a sign for La Playa which was an area that we hadn’t been to on other trips. 

There were restaurants along the beach with the usual “please come in for a beer and eat guys” and it all looked quite nice.   Next time!

As we were heading off the beach area and out of town I tried to get a picture of the RV park that is close by.  Sorry…the back window of the truck was dirty.  Full facilities in the park and it had a few rigs in it.  But….bugs would be a huge issue in San Blas.  Probably not for us.

We head out of town and on the road back to Rincon.

Driving through Zacualapan and these guys were bagging ….some sort of legume.  When they saw the camera come out…they all waved!

  Now we are coming into Las Varas and I take a picture and the guys with the melon truck smile and wave!

Now a huge pile of watermelons…and a picture and a huge smile and a wave. 

I really think they like having their picture taken!  Funny.

So…home for happy hour….still full from lunch and guess what…a sandwich in our room for supper.  What a surprise. Tomorrow a day of rest before we head back to Mazatlan.  It’s been a good week.
