Shop till you drop!

Tuesday March 2, 2010

I was going to head down to Centro on the bus this morning for a little shopping  and then travel back to the Gold Zone to the tent with all the wares for sale from Guadalajara etc. by myself.   It turned out that Sandi and Betty were going too so  I joined them and off we went on the bus.  We started out at the Central Market to pick up odds and ends of what we needed.  Another big bottle of  Vanilla for me (really cheap here!) and then on to the Gold Zone for more shopping and lunch.  We ended up at Pancho's on the beach and had a really nice meal and Betty ordered some personalized pens from a young woman on the beach that she knew from another trip to Mazatlan.   A hard way to make a living but I guess you just do what you have to.  We wandered around shopping and it was really quiet.  Hardly any tourists and the vendors were constantly yelling "Almost free, almost free!"
We looked at this and that and then headed down to Los Floris so Betty could pick up some information and of course a last beer before heading home was in order.  We were now too tired to go to the tent market and just hopped the bus home.  All that shopping is exhausting and thirsty work!

Helene popped over this morning to see if  still needed to go to the big tent for some shopping.  Of course I did!  A good trip and I picked up lots of really nice items.  A beautiful (bonito)  amber ring for me, some mole to cook with and a couple of other items that will make nice gifts.  A fun trip.  We got home just before 3pm so I had time to throw on my bathing suit and head to the beach for a swim.  Lovely and warm and just what I needed.

While I was out shopping Eric had headed up to Soriana's to get some buns and a lightbulb.  The Mexican parking lot guy at Soriana's really liked the Harley and when Eric came out after shopping he was still standing by the bike.  A pretty senorita was passing by and the parking lot guy made the typical curvy motion with his hands to appreciate her shape.  He then looked at Eric, pointed at him and winked and continued on with the two handed pump motion along with a sexy hip gyration!  He was telling Eric that he had a nice bike and could probably get himself a nice senorita with it!  Too funny!   A real chick magnet is Blue!

We have just found out that there is a problem with the toll road (maxipista) between Mazatlan and Culiacan.  We had noticed cones blocking the entrances to the toll road on Monday but thought it had something to do with drug busts.  Apparently there is a large protest (800 people) due to a dam and relocation of the people who live there and so these people are walking from Mazatlan to Culiacan in protest because their demands have not been met.  All the traffic is now travelling on the free or libre road between here and Culiacan and it is uncertain when the toll road will reopen and the park has filled up quite a bit with people waiting to travel north.  We do not want to travel the free road and especially not now when it is jammed with all the traffic.  We will wait and see and hope that the toll road will reopen by Tuesday when we are planning to leave Mazatlan.
