Sunday concert at the Angela Peralta.

I'm behind on my posts and I'll start my catch up with last Sunday's fabulous concert at the Angela Peralta.  I didn't even blog the previous one we attended as it wasn't worth blogging!
We were treated to a wonderful concert featuring Rodrigo Neftali who performed the Aranjuez Concerto in the first half and Joaquin Rodgrigo's Fantasia for an hombre gentil in the second.  Both halves were wonderful but the first half was spectacular.  Gordon Campbell was conducting the Camerata Campell orchestra.

That's Rodrigo Neftali seated with the guitar.  You will note he does not have any music in front of him and played the whole concert by memory.  Outstanding.
Following the first half Rodrigo was applauded by the audience and the orchestra.  A very humble man who thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Following the intermission there was a video played showing the life of composer and guitarist Joaquin Rodrigo.  Joaquin was blind after contracting diptheria at the age of three.  He married his wife Victoria who was a pianist in 1933 and a system was developed with braille to allow him to compose.  He and his wife lost their baby from a miscarriage.  A very sad time and this was when he composed his most famous composition Concierto de Aranjuez.  Rodrigo was born in 1905 and died in 1999.  All of this was explained in the very old video.

Following the second half of the concert everyone was on their feet for a standing ovation.

Rodrigo very humbly returned and played an encore.  Again, without music.

A fabulous concert and tomorrow we will attend the final concert of the season.

Lunch as usual at Chon's.  Eric's usual marlin tacos which the lovely young waitress Pamela smiles at when he orders.  Always the same thing!

Tacos Gobernador which have shrimp and a huge amount of cheese.  No dinner necessary that night.

Heading up the street to the bus.

The west side of Revolution square.

We've started catching the bus a few blocks south of the Mercado as it fills up so much there that it's hard to get a seat.  You can see the Basilica Cathedral.  A beautiful landmark for old Mazatlan and a bearing for tourists if they are lost!  A truly lovely Sunday outing!
