Ladies Lunch at Memin

Yesterday's lunch was at Memin which is now located almost across from Mega/Soriana.   It used to be up closer to Home Depot but it's now in a new location.

Just before I left to walk down to the RV park and meet the ladies the TelMex guy called.  He managed to communicate that he would arrive in 20 minutes and asked if that was okay.  Certainly!  We ordered the internet on Monday and the young woman who served us said it would be 3-5 days...no longer and it was only two days.  I left as Eric was home from his bicycle ride and headed out.  I am crossing the street right at this point to walk to the park because the construction just north of us is still creating a big mess on the sidewalk and road.  Along with that there are mountains of dust in the air that lands all over in our complex.  Tiresome!

I met Cathy who is in Marina Gardens condos and we walked down together.  Somehow we always seems to end up out on the street at the same time.  As we walked we noticed this guy sunning himself in front of the Torres complex.  He looked okay but we weren't sure if something was wrong with him.
When we arrived at the park all the ladies were ready and waiting.   As we left I saw this huge iguana marching around.  He used to be out the back in the trees when we were parked out in the back of the park.   Felipe the park owner was sitting up front and he said that the iguana was coming out to say Hi because he missed me.  Funny!
He is a really big boy!
Heading out to cross the street and catch the bus.  Today we need the Cerritos Juarez as it turns the corner and heads up towards Mega/Soriana.
I always think we look like we're in a police line up when we stand against the wall to get into the shade while we wait.
Off the bus and crossing the street to Memin.  This restaurant, like many in Mazatlan is all about seafood.
It's a big restaurant and not real busy on this day.  When they saw us coming the young guys quickly put some tables together so the ten of us could sit together.
Susie and Bonnie in conversation.  At this point the very efficient and attentive staff have delivered chips, salsa and our drinks.  We all had a laugh about last week's "dry" lunch and clicked glasses in a toast to our drinks!
Sandi doesn't look like she believes what Marilyn is saying.  They are very good friends!
A large amount of the seafood dishes here have some sort of a sauce with them.  Linda had ordered Memin's shrimp and she was a bit apprehensive about all the sauce but it turned out to be a winner.
Cathy ordered a shrimp taco and a seafood empanada.  She'd never had an empanada before so she wanted to try one.  Verdict...very good!
 Two empanadas!
 Empanadas were popular this time.
I believe Sandi has shrimp in a mango sauce.
Empanizado or breaded shrimp with lots of fresh veggies.

Pat had breaded shrimp too but she ordered a mango sauce for dipping.
Today I had coconut shrimp which I rarely order as I find them too sweet.  These were very good.  I would have ordered the oysters which are also very good here and actually big enough to be called an oyster but after my bad experience 2 weeks ago I decided to skip them.  Next time!
Bonnie had grilled fish which said was just delicious.
Everyone happily eating.  All the meals were good and everyone enjoyed what they'd ordered.
Lunch is done and Bonnie is showing Susie a picture of her baby grand daughter.  Bonnie and her husband stayed home last winter so they could enjoy the new little one.  Her daughter, son in law and the baby are coming to visit for a week over Christmas and she's pretty excited about that.
That's Sandi getting a big smile out of our waiter Alex.  He spoke perfect English and when I asked him where he grew up he said...Tacoma, Washington.  Sandi has a way with all young people from the very small ones that she gives fruit snacks that she carries in her purse up to the young adults who she always shows an interest in.  Sandi has a big heart and is always genuinely interested in their lives.  Not sure what she's saying but she has him and all the ladies laughing.

We all paid our bills and then some went home and some of us like Linda and I along with Bonnie went shopping.  We walked over the the Gran Plaza where Bonnie went off on our own and Linda and I went into the big department store.  I was hoping to find some cushions for my kitchen chairs but they only had thin ones in black and grey and I want comfy ones in Mexican colors.  May have to sew my own!  I also need a bureau for the bedroom and a wall unit TV stand and those items are going to take some serious shopping.  May have to go to Mesillas which is a furniture town up by Concordia.  All sorts of furniture stores there and some of it comes from Europe.  Linda got a couple of teflon utensils and then we were off to Mega/Soriana for a bit of groceries.  Linda was looking for quite a few specialty items which we found a few of in the "Gringo" section.  One thing we couldn't find for her was brown sugar.  I have lots that I brought from home so I'll share.  She did mention how exhausting it is too shop here with all the different items and the language barrier.  I manage quite well after ten years wintering here but there are just some items that you can't find.

Shopping done we were off on the Cerritos Juarez bus home.  This was one of the really old ones and the driver thought he was Mario Andretti....it can be really scary sometimes as they race along slamming on the breaks, grinding gears and missing cars by inches.  Ah Mexico!

  1. Kathy I have a question about the place ..San Luis...where you got your touristcard and TIP. We have a 25 foot RV and wonder if there is someplace to park where we won't get a ticket..Haha.. and I assume we can just walk over the border and get the TIP?

Sure would like to avoid Caborca/Sonora if we can it is so confusing about which lane to use.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I dont think so. It would be a bit of a crapshoot to try and then get stuck. I also don't know where you'd park if you went over the border there with the motorhome. Never easy! Caborca is now closed and you get import permits at San Emeterio where we used to go. Tourist cards are right at the border at Lukeville. The guy who towed us in San Luis said we could pay for parking at McDonald's.

  3. Yes we have gone to the new place but wondered if we could walk across where you did and get the TIP just to speed things up on the day we cross. So you think driving around on the US side might be a bit tight for us ...and if we can find a place to park? Shouldn't do it.? Tick to San Emereteria? Thanks Kathy
