Radishes and then a Taco lunch in San Ignacio

Today Eric and I took a solo ride back to San Ignacio.   The ride doesn’t always have to be to a different place, it just has to be enjoyable. We thought we’d pick up avocados at the gas station and then get radishes before having lunch in San Ignacio.  Well…no avocados at the gas station…boohoo!

Coming through Coyotitan we had a “hay” truck ahead of us.

Leftover from some sort of crop harvest perhaps and it sure doesn’t look very appetizing.  However I’m not a hungry cow so I guess that makes a difference!

There were radishes or “rabanos” just before San Ignacio and I bought a really nice bunch for Eric.  He just loves them and says his mother and he used to grow them in their little garden when he was a kid back on Manor St.  I gave up growing them at home because of root maggots but the ones grown here don’t have any.  It makes me suspicious that they may be heavily sprayed but….that’s just a guess.

The field is full of radishes and the next field has green onions.  At any taco stand you will find fresh radishes to eat with your meal which is  favorite here along with cucumbers and onions.

We parked the bike in the square and had a nice lunch of pork tacos.  We sat out on the street and it was very pleasant.  There were people coming and going and there was lots to see.  Men drinking beer on the benches, dogs peeing on tires and wives sitting in trucks waiting for their husbands.  After lunch I walked up to the Oxo and bought us each an ice cream treat.  Delicious.  When I came back to the table with the ice cream there was a little boy sitting next to me and he was having a taco for lunch.  I think his Grampa owns the restaurant.  He kept looking over at my shyly and I think he would have preferred the ice cream cone to his taco!  Cute little guy and he was with his Gramma.  So…a tasty, relaxing lunch and then we were off home.

Pretty, clean streets as we leave town.

I heard a band playing and snapped a quick picture of the University band.

Any kind of transport will do.  Dune buggys, quads, motorcycles, bicycles and whatever else that has wheels.

Leaving town.

Everyone has a cow and some chickens in their yard.

Entering Coyotitan there is a small red clay brick factory.  The clay is hand dug red clay.

Big gardens in town that have lots of things growing.

The open air restaurant on the corner in Coyotitan was really busy today.  We must stop and eat there some time.  It’s one of those places that is hard to stop at with the bike as it is way below the main street and it’s on a cobblestone road which is hard to maneuver on.

The bus in heading to San Ignacio and we are headed home.

I’ve been trying to get a picture of this tree with all the hanging bird nests.  It is on the road between the beach and the free road and every time we go past I miss it.  Nests for…orioles I think.  We have tons of orioles in the park but this is the only nest tree that I have seen.  Eric has seen them in other places.

It was a restful ride and dinner tonight was Chili rellenos from the lady who comes through the park every week or two.

We are both tired but it was another good day.

  1. Do you worry at all about eating at random restaurants? Away from Mazatlan and the tourist areas?

  2. We don't worry about it anymore than we would eating anywhere else in Mazatlan. We have eaten in some pretty grimy places and not gotten sick. The sickest Eric has ever been was at a hamburger joint in Casa Grande, Arizona. The cleanliness of the restaurant never seems to relate to the possibility of getting sick. In the end we just eat!
