Fog and a ride to Concordia

Monday January 24, 2011

Yesterday morning we got up to …..you guessed it another foggy morning.  We have been plagued with fog this winter and it is getting tiresome.

Here is a shot of the fog at 9am toward the back of the park.  That’s us on the left.

Same shot, same time, this morning, us on the left.

That’s what you’re supposed to see when you look toward the road.  Smarten up weather!

Okay, enough whining, right!  All the people at home will be saying …  boohoo to you!!!!

We were wondering if we were going to be able to go on a ride yesterday since it was so foggy but at about 9:30 it lifted.  Yeah!  At that point I heard a knock on the door and it was Frank.  He and Sandi had decided not to come with us as he wanted to watch a football game.  No problemo. We set off with Sam and Rita at 10:30 and headed out of town.  The traffic wasn’t bad through Mazatlan except for the construction.  Makes the Mexicans even crazier drivers than they usually are.  After we got through Villa Union Sam and Rita turned off on the maxipista that should eventually go to Durango when it’s finished.  At this point it has no traffic and dead ends past the turn off to Concordia so it is a nice quiet ride.

The lonely highway, that’s Sam & Rita ahead of us.  Just before that they slowed down as there was a herd of domestic goats at the edge of the road.  I was too slow with my camera so I didn’t get a picture.

I did get a picture of a cow at the edge of the road on the turn off to Concordia.  You just never know what you will see when you ride.  I guess that’s not her best side!

The circus is in town.  This is on the highway just before the turn off into Concordia.

That’s the blogger in front of the restaurant that we ate at just off the town square.

The first order was cerveza and cerveza needs limon so that’s what Rita is squeezing!

The restaurant was quite beautiful inside.

Kathy and Rita relaxing.

So, the meal was excellent.  Fish for Sam, Eric and I and a hamburger and fries for Rita.  Eric and I had the fish Ranchero style with peppers, onions and tomato sauce, rice and frijoles, two cervezas each and the cost was 160 pesos …about $14.00.  Good food, good service and a good price.  We’ll go back again.  Much better than last Sunday in El Quellite.

After lunch we left the bikes in front of the restaurant and went for a walk around town.  It was really warm and pleasant.  Rita and I bobbed in and out of stores and the the guys waited.

The Candy store.  I bought some Mexican coconut bars.  Delicious!

P1000722

Chinese restaurant and Sushi bar.  Who’d have thought you’d find that in a little Mexican town.  You just never know.

Sam and Rita’s dog is “Chico”

Sam, Eric and Rita walking beside the church.  It is a huge church.

When we got back to the restaurant  there were a bunch of Mexican bikes parked out front.  Harley’s and a Yamaha.  Sam struck up a conversation with one of the riders who spoke good English.  They had come to Concordia for a ride and lunch…..just like us!  The guy told Sam they were riding to Guadalajara for a bike rally next weekend.  Should be fun.

Leaving town.

A good ride home but really busy in Mazatlan with even worse traffic due to the construction.

Another good day!

  1. We went to that same restaurant with our friend Les from Nanaimo. He noted that it has the same name as the Granary Restaurant in Nanaimo where he worked for many years.

The food was good that year as well!

  2. Sorry we missed you in La Penita! We went shopping in PV that day. Didn't you like La Penita to stay overnight, or are you guys on your bikes to La Manzanilla?

  3. Hi Kathy and Eric, Did you make it to Manzanillo? Great to keep up with your news. So sorry to hear about Jack. Glad he is doing well now. Much love from Claire and Mark in El Salvador.
