A day in Yuma ....a dinner and..Yuma, AZ to Alamo, NV

We both had a good nights sleep on Friday and were up for breakfast on Saturday morning.  In the past the breakfast here has been mediocre at best.  This morning we were in for a surprise.  They are now offering a full breakfast and the lovely young Mexican lady cooked us eggs over easy and pancakes.  Delicious.  I asked when she started and she said ...three weeks ago.  Lucky for us.  We ended up being the last in the breakfast room and we had quite a chat.  She was the cutest thing!  Same age as our daughter Krista and she told us her whole recent life's history and how she's turned her life around by becoming a meat eater.  A guy she goes to the gym with had told her that she needed to stop being a vegetarian and "  eat some meat " and get rid of margarine and all the processed foods.  Her cholesterol had been high and she was having heart issues, depression and just felt lousy.   She is thin and was excersizing so maybe it's genetic. She got some treatment for the cholesterol, changed her diet, and is changing careers and getting more education.  She's been a hair dresser for 18 years and she said it was killing her legs.  She's back at the gym, eating right and feeling great.  What a story she told.  Oh...and she's going to be a gramma.

Then we were off to Walmart for a few travel groceries and the Sketchers warehouse store.  No luck..nothing I liked.

I ended off  the afternoon with 2 1/2 hours of blogging.  Then Vietnamese cuisine.

Dinner at Saigon Pho...and it was delicious.  Lots of vegetables and mine even had toful in it which was surprisingly good!

The veggies are here and now he's waiting for dinner.

We were up early this morning and over to have breakfast by 6:30 am.  Pancakes for me and eggs and pancakes for Eric.

We were on the road just after 7 am with about 400 miles to go.  This is some sort of brassica crop...maybe cabbage.  Very green.

I don't know what this strange little crop is.  Tiny plants that I have no idea what they are.

The long lonesome highway heading north towards Quartzite.

Mountains in the distance.  We always say how much we love the quiet and the starkness of the desert.

Very green at this time of year.

Check point...nobody there.

Coming into Quartzite.  We wonder what all the people that boondock here all winter actually do.

Downtown Quartzite and it's pretty quiet.  Most people have gone home for the summer.

Up ahead Parker Arizona...need any jerky?

Sunday morning and you could shoot a cannon down the street.

We topped up with diesel so we wouldn't have to get fuel in California.  Just under 4 dollars US here and $6.99 in California.

The Colorado River.

Reasonably busy on the Parker to Vidal junction portion.

The ribbon candy highway.  Up and down....down and up like a roller coaster.

Getting closer to our turn at I 40.

Off I 40 heading north on 95 to Searchlight and Las Vegas.

California meets Nevada and the road becomes four lanes.

We saw lots of old cars on the road today from Parker north and this one needed a lift.

Downtown Searchlight.  It says 25mph and it means it!

The Joshua trees start to appear and they're nice and green.

Searchlight is high and now we head down towards Las Vegas on the war memorial highway.

Coming up to the turn onto I 11 and Las Vegas.  It is Sunday so it should be quieter.  It's always nuts through here with the cars and trucks bobbing, weaving and raging along.  Plus the north end is always under construction.  Always stressful.

Can you tell I like the Joshua trees!!

Up ahead downtown Las Vegas.  Pretty quiet.  25miles to get through.

We're out of Vegas, and heading north on 95 to Alamo.  We stopped at the Love's Fuel stop and had lunch.

I love those mountains.

Wide open pretty country.

Quite green.

Coming into Alamo where we'll stay at the Alamo Inn for the night.

We noticed a long stretch of flattened land that was built at the side of the highway coming into town.  I asked the motel manager and he says it's a Las Vegas garbage😬  Apparently Las Vegas asked a local councilor if it would be okay and he said sure.  They asked how much they'd have to pay and he was surprised the town would get money.  I think they need new politicians here.  The motel manager just rolled his eyes...who wants garbage right in town?

We fueled up and look at that price out in the middle of no where.  Better than Yuma!

We are all unloaded and all tucked in.  We got in around 3pm so we made good time and it was an easy drive except for the dreaded Las Vegas and even that wasn't too bad.

Nothing fancy but we're only here for one night.  Tomorrow Jackpot Nevada.
