We hit the road early this morning…8am with Sam and Rita on our ride to Los de Marcos.
Aren’t you guys ready yet!
Eric and Kathy ready to go!
Sam & Rita leading.
The weather was cool and a bit cloudy and to be honest it made the whole ride a lot easier as Harleys don’t really like hot weather.
Through Esquinapa on the free road. This the way you would have to drag a rig.
We had no issues except for sore bums but that is to be expected and we are all feeling pretty proud of ourselves that we, the over 60 crowd rode 250 miles on the free road today. It was fun. Another milestone.
So, like what were you guys doing down there?
Estuary flats past Esquinapa.
We made hourly stops to stretch our legs and bums and stopped for lunch just south of Rosamorada . Four big lunches (fried fish, chicken, beef machaca etc.) with drinks for 260 pesos another good meal.
Waiting for lunch.
Bikes parked across the free road at the Pemex.
We took the free road on this trip because there are no tolls but also because there is no fuel on the toll road unless you get off, pay a toll and pay a toll to get back on!
The ride through Tepic was uneventful and although the ride down to Compostela and on to Las Varas was slow we didn’t find it bad at all.
Coming through Xalisco just south of Tepic on the 200 to Compostela. This would be narrow for and R.V. !
We are getting fuel before heading down the hill and this cane truck just came up!
We followed a tractor trailer down the hill to Las Varas and he went plenty fast for us. Not as steep as we had expected but quite winding from Compostela to Las Varas. It was slow because we were behind a big truck but I think that is probably the usual and passing is just freaking dangerous. Why pass to save 10 minutes and kill yourself in the process?
We are presently back in Tlacapaque and staying in a hotel room for about $36 per night. No kitchen but we don’t intend to cook anyway.
We had a few Pacificos and then ate at the restaurant upstairs next to Tlacapaque (Tequila Cantina) and had a really nice meal. When we were here last winter this restaurant was never open unless you went and found someone and this time there were lots of people eating. Go figure. (Heard this morning it’s under new management.) Four nice meals and for me a really nice Seafood Salad that was all seafood) with a Pacifico each for 250 pesos (about $20) for two couples and you can’t beat that.
A not very good self timed photo….but you get the idea.
Home to bed and hopefully a good sleep. Well….it is Mexico and we expect it to be noisy but…at about 10pm we heard what we thought was a leaf blower start up. Crap …what a racket. Turned out to be a bug fogger which is acceptable considering we are surrounded by swamp and a lagoona would be eaten by bugs without some control. No problema. Okay a few roosters crowing in the dark….like what’s up with that….are they mental…a few dogs barking etc. but ….oh well…that’s they way it goes.

Up this morning on a trot up the street for breakfast. Sam and Rita had already gone out on the breakfast trek without us and eaten. We found breakfast and then up the road to find more dinero at the Oxxo or the Pemex. Done and then a walk down to the beach to check out the RV parks.
Sam and Eric walking to the gate out.
Cute little Mexican girls. The little one on the right kept coming toward the camera and I had to keep backing up fast!
The main street in Los de Marcos.
One of the beautiful but noisy roosters that keep us awake at night. Good thing we have ear plugs!
Rita on our walk.
Beautiful doorway….I wonder who lives here?
Saul’s poor tired old vegetable truck.
It was very warm and humid this morning and I felt quite overwhelmed by the heat. As we got to the end of the road down by La Parota I managed to trip and fall down. Luckily no noticeable damage and we continued on. La Parota is still where Eric would stay when we come down this way and it has more people than when we came this way last year. Nice park.
A quick limonada on the beach and then back to the park.
Sam and Eric on the beach.
Me resting after my tumble…..what a looser!
Always dogs in the restaurants on the beach.
A typical pregnant Mexican dog…at least this one is well fed! What a life.
The menu if you want to order.
Walking up the beach to Tlaquepaque.
The lagoona off the beach coming into El Refugio (Trailer park at Tlaquepaque.)
This handsome fellow was sunning himself by the pool….mostly tail and if he is grabbed by it…..of it comes and he’ll grow another one. Pretty handy escape mechanism!
Rita and I amused ourselves at the pool and again it was noisy. The cleaning lady fired up a gas powered power washer to clean up the pool area and it was pretty noisy. We knew she wanted us to move but we didn’t oblige and after an hour of washing she gave up and shut it down.
Happy hour and then off to Saul’s restaurant for barbecue.
Sam & Rita….happy hour on the balcony.
Checking out the passing vendor’s pottery. Rita bought a jug. Saul barbecuing on the right.
As good as we remembered. Full tummies and home to bed. Tomorrow night lasagna. Another good day in Mexico.
P.S. Now it seems I am developing “La Tourista.” This is just not my year. Usually I am very healthy but with two months of muscle and joint problems, medication that helped, then rising Blood pressure (more meds and now okay) a fall and now Treda for La Tourista I am feeling weary. Tomorrow better be a good day.
