Thursday to Sunday in Los de Marcos

Sunday January 15, 2012

We have just come back from another breakfast of ….you guessed it….Huebos!  Getting tired of that but what can you do.  Tried pancakes and crepes the day before last but the pancakes were bitter and the crepes had too much strawberry jam on them.  We didn’t complain but should have.  The last few days have been quiet with me sick but a few things have been going on.  We didn’t ride with Sam and Rita to San Blas on Friday because I still wasn’t well enough.  We didn’t hit the beach yesterday because it was cloudy so we rode toward Puerto Vallarta to have a look.  Eric has ridden a few times but with my unfortunate “La Tourista” I have not been out an about much….cured now.

We rode into the La Cruz Marina and yacht club in The Bahia de Banderos by Bucerias just north of Puerto Vallarta to have a look at the boats and wander around the  pretending we were rich!  You would need much dinero to keep a boat here.  There was some sort of a sailboat race happening and they were setting up for a party on the Malecon around the harbor.

The bay with it’s huge break water in front of the marina.  It would seem like they get some really big storms here for concrete like that!

A picture perfect day for a race.

The boat harbor…or money pit….if you own a boat.  Even worse than an RV!

P1020117 The yacht club is back on the right and it is quite swanky!

Boats sail to Mexico from everywhere but it is a hard sail back so I wouldn’t be surprised if they just stay!

We then headed up the paved secondary road out toward Punta de Mita (lots of really rich estates out there) and then back to Sayulita.  When we were here last year Eric tried to ride from Sayulita to Punta de Mita but so many of the bridges had washed out he gave up.  This year they are still working on them (3 or 4) and it wasn’t too bad to get around them.  A nice rural ride without bumper to bumper traffic.

A rural Mexican road….nice and quiet.

One of the many bridges under repair on the way to Sayulita.

Coming into Sayulita.

There was a “Rodeo” party put on by the El Refugio RVers last night and we had a birds eye view from our balcony.  They started with “Lets make a deal” then some Mechanical Bull Riding where they had a blow up pad under it for the gringos to fall off on.  Dinner, music and dancing and they all had a great time.  They even had a horse there for effect.  We didn’t join in but it was fun to watch!  There will be lots of big fat heads and sore muscles today!

The patient horse waiting to amuse the gringos.  He lives just up the street in someone’s back yard!  Beautiful, well trained, quiet horses here in Mexico and the caballeros take any opportunity to show them off.  They dress up and ride around town at night….just like the guys at home with their fancy cars!

The view from our balcony of the basketball court where they hold their parties.  Pretty nice.

The mechanical bull ready to ride.  That’s a projection screen to the left where they showed racing and bull riding when it got dark.  We watched some of the bull riding on the screen before we went to dinner and it was really scary.  The bulls are huge, loco, crazy, mean, fast Brahmas here in Mexico and I think there would have been many damaged and/or dead riders.  Way more dangerous than the US and Canada!

P1020126

See that bull rider on the bull….he fell off!  The Mexican kids at the party had a whale of a time riding and showing off their skills.

A beautiful night for a party and they were all done and gone home by about 11pm.

We trotted up the street for dinner and tried a new gringo pizza pasta place.  It has been full every night when we went by and it was no exception last night.  Eric had ravioli and I had pizza and it was very good.  The place is new, clean and run by people with English accents who speak Spanish.  Too much pizza for me so there will be lunch today.  Pricey at 15o pesos each but a nice change.  We had lasagna with soup, Caesar salad and desert for the same price at Saul’s and it was just as good!

We ran into some people from La Parota the other night in Saul’s while we were eating and had a quick chat.  We had a nice chat to Brian and Sharon from Saskatchewan who we met last year here and in Las Jaibas as well.  They are really enjoying their stay in Los de Marcos and the park is quite full this year.  We’ve seen the group of them on the beach when Eric was swimming but this was the first time we said hello.  Nice people.

One other thing I should mention is that the Quebecois here in Tlaquepaque have been really nice and friendly this year!  They invited us to Rodeo night even though we didn’t go and it has been quite pleasant here this time.  If you wanted to stay in an RV park with beautiful facilities (pool, volleyball, boles or Bocce) and be right on the ocean this would be the place to stay.  They have regular scheduled events like last night but it doesn’t seem overwhelming.  “Connie…..you could organize your little heart out here!” No one seems to swim up this end of the beach but it is a short trot to the to the other end.

So, today we will laze around, maybe I’ll lay by the pool and then we’ll walk up the beach for a swim.  Today is hot and sunny and the water will be warm….what more can you ask for!   Tomorrow we will probably take a ride up to the San Blas area to check that out.
