Today we were supposed to go a restaurant close to the Plazuela but Ruth couldn’t find it on her scouting mission. So…Angelina’s kitchen is a good back-up choice. Ruth and Eddie weren’t here when we went earlier in the season so this is a first for them. Today there were only nine of us partly due to the fact that some ladies didn’t want a redo…not a problem for me.
Off to the street to find a red truck.
How much….200 pesos…how about 180…okay…in the end we gave him 225 pesos so he got a tip!
Theme of the2018 Carnival – Patasalada: El circo de los talentos.
A rough meaning for patasalada (salty feet for those who live close to the ocean) and el circo de los talentos (referring to the tremendous artistic talent present in Mazatlan.)
The carnival statues have started to appear along the malecon.
Quote from the internet… “You’ll also see mythical creatures from the sea and sky. Carnival organizers have elected to honour the musicians, actors and artists who have contributed to the rich talent pool that has made Mazatlan the cultural jewel in the Pacific-Mexican Coast crown. You’ll see the colourful paper mache sculptures of these stars along the Malecon and in the Plazuela Machado.”
As we whizzed along I tried to capture a few photos of the few statues that have been erected.
They are huge and colourful.
I wonder if that is Gordon Campbell who sponsors the Sunday afternoon performances at the Angela Peralta!
When they have all been erected you’ll likely be able to find photos of them on the internet.
You can see they are being erected in the midst of the malecon construction. It is supposed to be finished for the start of Carnival which is Feb. 8th. It’s going to be interesting to see if they get it done.
We’re in the Olas Altas area now and there is no contruction here.
You can still park up this way on the malecon.
Many artistic additions to the malecon.
We arrive.
Hmm…..what to order.
The bartender saw me taking photos and insisted I be in one. Thanks!
Ruth and Eddie listen to something Pam has to say. This was a nice small group so we could all visit.
Claudette ordered a greek pizza. Is that pretty or what!
Maureen had shrimp ravioli. She said there was more sauce than ravioli but that it was very good.
Ruth and Eddie like to share and this is their roasted cauliflower.
They also had some little tostadas with a number of different toppings. A good share dish.
Pam had the Italian pizza and she said it wasn’t the best one she’d ever had but that it was very flavourful and good.
The entrance to the restaurant.
Pat had fish and chips which was a hit the last time we were here.
Connie had a Greek salad.
At this point I must have drifted off….I had a beef baguette and Bonnie had salmon. No pictures. My beef was tasty…could have used a dip and Bonnie said her salmon was oily but…good. Pretty hard to get a great meal out to everyone but in the end I don’t think anyone was disappointed with their lunch. You win some….you lose some.
Always a good lunch stop!
So…some of us one way and some of us the other.
Looking towards the ocean.
This play park is in front of Macaws and I couldn’t convince Connie to go down the slide for me!
We stopped at Etnica to have a look and this mural was across the street. Interesting!
This is a really nice craft shop with pieces by artisans from all over Mexico. Clothes as well. A coffee shop with live music and coffee to go. Always worth a stop. Today I bought a nice turquoise Frida Kahlo t-shirt and Connie bought the same one. We’d better check before we go somewhere together! Maureen picked up a couple of gifts and off we went. Pam is very willowy and wears very original clothing….lots of the clothes would have suited her.
At this point we left Connie behind at Tippy Toes to have a hair-cut and Maureen, Ruth, Eddie and I carried on.
So many interesting streets to take pictures of.
Passing Panama bakery and heading for the Plazuela. I hoped to get a ticket to the Sunday afternoon performance at the Angela Peralta. This week it’s water music by Handel. Should be lovely.
Too bad this isn’t open for lunch.
Carnival statue in the Plazuela.
Here is some of the local artistic talent drawing outside. Art schools, music schools, ballet schools and much more in this area of Mazatlan.
A couple of Senors commented as they walked by “ Futuros Picassos!” Perhaps they will be, the drawings were very good although they looked like they might be architecture students.
I did manage to get a ticket for the performance and although I will sit by myself and not with the rest of the group that doesn’t concern me. They will be in D row and I will be in K row, which is still a good seat. I’m looking forward to it. Maureen and I had an ice cream cone at this point and I asked Ruth to take my picture. Same as last time…no picture. I think she is turning the camera off….not taking a picture. Funny!
As we headed back to the mercado to catch a bus home we heard music playing. You can just see the students inside….they are very accomplished and the music was lovely.
Another quick stop in another craft shop. Sorry I forget the name.
Lots of masks. This shop has a water feature with a small bridge.
This would look nice on my purple garden shed.
So, all in all an interesting day with lots of things to see and do. I was going to stop at the Pacific Pearl on the way home to get a Carnival T-shirt but I was just too tired. Another day!
Great review of Angelina's and pictures of food. Very nice photos from around Centro and the wonderful, huge, colorful Carnavial statutes. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the Malecon statues. Love Angelina's!
ReplyDeleteWe aren't going to any performances this year other than the March 4th one. Hope to see you there.
