We were up early today as we had a long way to go, 345 miles. The weather is changing and we want to be lower down where it’s warmer.
On the road at 7:30 am and it’s 4C. At least it’s sunny.
No matter where you look there are spectacular rock formations.
Jackpot to Wells and it’s windy. Coming from the southwest and blowing us around a bit. Going to be a whole lot windier tomorrow. The National Weather Service has a wind warning out from 11am to 11pm Thursday and we’ll stay put in Alamo. We are never in a hurry unless we are running from the weather.
Lots of deer in this area and they have built tunnels and overpasses like this one for them to migrate over the highway.
South of Wells and 132 miles to go to Ely.
We love the Great Basin with it’s wide open meadows and distant mountains. Makes you feel really small.
Just north of Ely is McGill…..the town with the really slanted street.
We picked up fuel in Ely and are just heading out of town.
Construction. We had three stops between Wells and Ely with waits of 15 or 20 minutes and now there are more.
Two of the first stops were a bit confusing as nothing much was happening. A bit of line painting and that’s all. One of the great irritations were the rumble strips which aren’t good for any vehicle and drivers went around them if they could.
We are down from the summit here and the waits weren’t too long. It’s a good thing we left early because we lost about an hour with construction stops. The drive is usually quiet from Jackpot to Alamo but today it was quite congested because the traffic kept getting bunched up at the construction stops.
Coming through Lund and there is lots of farming equipment for sale. This whole area is farmed and it is beautiful and green.
Looks a bit smokey up ahead. There are fires over to the west in the Elko/Winnemucca district and since the wind is coming from that direction I guess that’s why we are seeing smoke. We’ve been plagued by smoke since we left home. Maybe tomorrow’s wind will blow it away!
Coming into the White River Canyon.
I can never resist a picture here.
So into the Picketts RV park in Alamo. A decent stop even with the barking dogs and refrigeration trucks running all night. It’s warm and sunny at 29C but it will cool off a bit tomorrow. We’d planned to stay up high where it was cooler but now it’s cooler everywhere.
This is Thursday morning and most everyone has hit the road. I hope they know there’s a wind warning for southern Nevada!
P.S. ….we didn’t blow a tire yesterday.
Checked in a few days ago and found that you are back on the road. Stay safe hope that was the last tire you blow for this year. Hope Felipe has a place for us when we get to Mazatlan.
ReplyDeleteIt's a big park and there's always room for one more Every year there are some new faces and some old faces that are missing for one reason or another. Drive safe.
