Soap Lake, Wash to Kelowna, B.C.

> Mainmap

211 miles today.

IMG_7220

Up early and on the road by 8am……which is early enough for us.  It was a quiet sleep as the traffic stopped overnight.  Weather is cloudy, cool and not windy.

IMG_7221

Heading up to Dry Falls.

IMG_7227

Heading north on 17 and the area is dotted with farms.

IMG_7229

The road is a little worse than the last time we came through.

IMG_7230

This big double carrying tree whips for planting passed us with a hill coming up.  Just over the crest it was wide open for miles.  Duh!!!

IMG_7233

The cattle are still in close waiting to be fed.  Not much growing here yet and there are lots of calves.

IMG_7236

This set of buses were all driven by Mexicans and right behind them was a state trooper.  Problemo?

IMG_7238

That’s Bridgeport at the bottom of the hill.

IMG_7240

Just upstream is the Chief Joseph Dam.

IMG_7249

A bit greener here but only the willows seem to have any leaves on.

IMG_7252

We stopped for fuel just south of Omak and the station is now run by Conaco or something and not the Indians.  (Politically correct in the USA!) Easy in and easy out.

IMG_7255

The clouds look ominous but only a few drops of rain here and there and…..no wind.

IMG_7261

Tonasket, Oroville and then the border.

IMG_7262

No leaves on the fruit trees.  Appears to be a few weeks late.

IMG_7266

Tonasket.  These small old towns are always pretty.

IMG_7274

Neat old building in Oroville.

IMG_7277

Here we are on the Canadian side of the border.  How much alcohol (2 open packs of beer) what did you buy (a replacement tire) anything else (just some t-shirts etc. for the grand kids) any fresh fruit or vegetables (no….well the small amount I had wasn’t very fresh and wouldn’t have been an issue anyway)  okay….Welcome home.  Real nice border guard this time which was refreshing!

IMG_7278

In Canada the cherry trees are in bloom but that’s it.

IMG_7279

132 ….KM’s!….to Kelowna.  Not miles so it’s like being back in Mexico where it’s metric except it’s really cold here!

IMG_7283

Are they sure?

IMG_7284

Pretty little town that’s been cuted up.

IMG_7289

IMG_7290

North of Penticton on Skaha Lake.

IMG_7294

Pretty along here but definitely not spring yet.

IMG_7295

Okanagan Lake.

IMG_7296

IMG_7300

Coming into Peachland.

IMG_7303

Westbank (aka West Kelowna by some) ahead.

IMG_7307

The development in Westbank is just crazy.  Here the view of the lake is blocked by a row of ugly signs….this is First Nations Land and they can do what they want.  I might rethink this plan!

IMG_7309

Over the relatively new bridge into Kelowna.

IMG_7312

We are coming down Pandosy towards Ian and Linda’s and the traffic is in a major hurry.  We had quite a giggle when they were all slowed down by the garbage truck making stops to pick up….garbage.  Every time we come into Kelowna it is apparent how much busier it is.  More and more and more people driving on a road system that can’t support it.

IMG_7313

The lake is beautiful and trees…..have no leaves.  We are both wearing down vests!

IMG_7314

Safe and sound in Ian and Linda’s driveway.  We’ll stay for about a week as we have lots to do….including looking at some used motorhomes.  Eric is really tired of the poor undercarriage on the RV along with blowing tires.  I’ll keep you posted.

Oh yeah….our neighbours from Mazatlan, Rick, Judy and Sadie the dog passed us when we had stopped for lunch at the scales in Penticton earlier.  They live in Penticton.

A good day’s drive.
