Why, AZ to Yuma, AZ

IMG_3304

Parked in the quietness of the desert.  Well….actually not that quiet as the burros brayed all night.   It’s spring and they are noisier than usual.  We used to think they were cute….not so much anymore!IMG_3305

It’s spring, the desert is green, the flowers are blooming and boy is the pollen in the air.  Both Eric and I have dry itchy noses and eyes.  The humidity is so low after the moistness of Mazatlan that our noses are bleeding.  Swell!IMG_3306

A lovely view. IMG_3307

That’s me having my morning coffee in the sunshine.  It really cools down in the desert overnight which is nice for sleeping.

On Friday we took a run into Ajo to replenish our groceries and then it was back to the rig to relax.

Saturday morning we were on the road to Yuma by about 9:30am.  A short way to go and lots of time to get there.   We are always amazed at the amount of tailings left from the Ajo New Cornelia open pit copper mine that closed in the early 1980’s.

As you travel along I Eight to Yuma there are irrigated areas growing alfalfa for the huge feed lots.  Lots of water, lots of fertilizer and lots of manure.  It is quite the smell!  IMG_3314

We pulled off the highway at Coyote Wash just east of Yuma for lunch. IMG_3315

Nice and quiet.

We pulled into the Arizona Sands RV park about 2:30 and parked where we usually do.  Guess who was parked right behind us….Dennis and Marilyn who winter with us in Las Jaibas in Mazatlan.  They were a day ahead of us and said they might stay in the Arizona Sands and here they are.

Happy hour, happy hour …..happy hour is here.  I did some timed photos and missed Dennis on this one. IMG_3318

Here he is….nice look Eric!

Yesterday, Sunday was our 47th wedding anniversary!  Yikes….that’s a lot of years.  It has been a long interesting journey and there is more to come.  I celebrated by doing laundry and ironing….just another day!

We will get a few things done while we’re here and then head up to Laughlin, Nevada for a week.  There we hope to ride up to the Grand Canyon on the motorcycle and have a look.  If it isn’t too cold!

  1. Congratulations! It was our 46th on the 4th and once again, it was me who remembered it.

  2. Happy Anniversary to you both! Nice to see people staying together these days! You all look so tanned.... You didn't stop at Dateland for a date shake? Ya - that's the thing about Ajo....... Looking forward to your pics of the Grand Canyon - we've only been there once.

  3. Happy Anniversary! What is with the air and the sore & bleeding noses? It seems to be more of a challenge this year.
