We left Guaymas at about 9:30 am for our short day’s drive. 310 kilometers.
Just north of San Carlos and …..an accident. The bus was being hauled away on a wrecker. The left top of it had been torn off so it must have rolled over. The buses and most everyone else are in way too big of a hurry.
It is greener than we have ever seen it at this time of the year. Lots of rain!
Heavy traffic heading south for Semana Santa. A Federale roadside check point and we were waved through.
The first right turn in Hermosillo at the bottom of the new overpass.
Two lanes turn left to Nogales under this overpass. Lots of potholes and aggressive truck drivers dodging in and out.
At the north end of Hermosillo there is detour.
The vineyards are ever expanding and very, very green.
The highway isn’t too bad here and you can see they are expanding it.
If they use this as a road bed it will fail just like everywhere else.
Wow! This is nice and you can move to the shoulder so someone can pass.
Didn’t last long. Really bad here.
No huge line up of trucks at the military check point at Benjamin Hill. Never seen that before.
They just waved us through! Bueno!
Even the flowers are blooming.
We arrived at Edgar and Ana’s about 3pm and Edgar was in his usual position waiting at the gate. His first question was “ Who won the Chili cook off?” I had to tell him I didn’t win and he said “ You should use black beans.” I said I did use them. Poor Edgar he was so enthused when I won last year. I guess I’ll just have to try harder for him! We had a quick chat with Ana, I signed her book and gave her 200 pesos for the night. Lovely people. After we parked Eric walked out to chat to Edgar. They talked motorcycles….Edgar just loves motorcycles and he told Eric that Blue and Big Red are the best looking ones he’s ever seen. Nice compliment considering a motorcycle accident when he was young crippled Edgar for life.
We had stopped for a pit stop, lunch and fuel so pretty good time considering how slow we went. The bonus was the excellent mileage with the slow speed! Roads as usual from Guaymas to Hermosillo and worse in spots from Hermosillo to Santa Ana. Good news….nothing bad happened along the way.
Tomorrow, over the border.
We always look forward to our short stays with Edgar and Anna! What a helpful, friendly couple. I cannot imagine Mexico without them and their Punta Vista park!
