The last hurrah!…or El Memin for lunch.

Everyone is going home…..boohoo!  However we all hope to come back in the fall….that is if all our ducks are in a row!  One never knows from year to year who will turn up and who will have to stay home.  

Today was the final Wednesday ladies lunch and the choice was El Memin. 

El Memin was closed in Feb. of 2011 when it was shot up by gunmen.  Drug wars forced the family who owned the restaurant to close it’s small chain of restaurants.  It operated under another name for awhile under a new owner but has now returned as “El Memin.”

El Memin is located just down the street from Home Depot and Soriana’s but it is hard to get there by bus.  That’s Diane’s smart car to the right. IMG_3128

I’ve never been here before but Val has eaten here many times.  Very attentive staff and a really clean, nice restaurant. IMG_3129

  The menu.  Val suggested the “grande” beer for 45 peso’s which is a good deal.  Eddy didn’t need to look at the menu as she knew what she wanted.  1/2 order (6) of oysters Rockefeller.  I’ve been dying to have oysters so my choice was easy as well. IMG_3130

My grande beer and the well chilled mug.  The beer only fills the top half of the mug and the bottom half has some sort of sealed chilling agent.  Very cold and very good on a really hot day.  Val and Diane paid 100 peso’s to take a new mug home.

That’s Ruth’s grand daughter or “nieta” Sarah who is visiting from Wisconsin during spring break.  Lots of spring breakers in town right now. IMG_3132

When Eddy and I ordered our lunch the waiter suggested we might like to try a medley of oyster preparations.  Two with an orange cheese sauce, two with a white cream cheese sauce and two breaded, or oyster’s Rockefeller.  The lunch included pasta and vegetables as well as bread or tortillas. This is called papered stuffed fillet of fish.   Not sure why it’s called papered because it looks like tin foil to me!

Everyone has their food and we are ready to eat.  After we were done the consensus was that the food was excellent.  For me it was nice to try different preps of oysters but in the end the “ Oysters Rockefeller” were the best.

We were soon full and ready to pay and head home.  The waiters were very efficient and quickly called us an “auriega” red truck to take us home.

We had about a 15 minute wait and it was hot outside.

Johanna is in her late 80’s but she is very able and feisty!  However, the waiter quickly brought her a chair so she could sit down to wait.  Very thoughtful. IMG_3148

We are loaded into the truck and on our way home. 

Thumbs up for El Memin.  Excellent food and service.  Definitely worth a repeat visit and I’d go back anytime.

Ruth is already planning for next year!  First we’ll get to vote for our favorite restaurant and then she’ll count the votes and we’ll go to the winner in the fall when we all return.  After that we’ll all put a choice in her bag to be drawn out each week and the deal is …..none can be the same as last year.

  1. Lucky you for still being there and enjoying such a great meal. A bit jealous at this end about all that warmth! I'd have to scroll back to find a favourite - many looked and sounded good. Today's looked like one of the best - the coconut shrimp would have been my choice!

  2. What a delectable list of menu! I'm actually very curious as to how their zarandeado octopus would taste like. After all, it sounds like an exquisitely delicious meal. Well, the oysters definitely look delicious! Hahaha! I hope you enjoyed your lunch out with friends, Kathy! Thanks for sharing that! Take care always! :)
