Getting a bit bored here in Mazatlan.

Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010

We've been in Mazatlan since the 11th of December and are finding we are getting a bit bored.  I'm sure there are a zillion things to do that we haven't done but maybe it's just the lack of real work and projects that we do at home that is the problem.  We have never been very big on recreation so six months of it is a bit of a stretch.  You can only see so many sights, eat so many meals out, go swimming, go fishing etc. etc. etc...... before you get bored.  Too much of a good thing and there probably is no easy answer to all this.  Boo-hoo right!

Today Dennis and Marilyn left to start their journey back to their home north of Edmonton.  Dennis' mother has not been well and they have been anticipating an early end to their winter holiday since they arrived.  They have been great neighbours and we have really enjoyed their company and I'm sure if we do this again we will run into them.  They will leave the RV somewhere in Nevada and finish their journey north in the truck as the roads north would be a problem hauling the 5th wheel.   Oh, and by the way it is really noisy since they left and aren't blocking the street noise.   Safe journey Dennis and Marilyn!

Today it is cloudy and a bit showery and will be this way for a couple of days although the temp is still about 25C.  The rest of the day stayed grey and it really matched my mood so I guess I'll just cram all my bad humour into one day!

Blue hiding from the impending storm.

Shot to the front of the park.

I walked the beach to Cerritos in light drizzle and the locals were fishing.  Two guys had five fish on the beach and were catching more.  The fish were probably a good 18 inches long and likely Jack Cravelle.  The same as Eric caught and so when I got back from my walk he dashed to the beach.  No luck, but hey there is always manana.
Another nice sunset.

Big rain and wind over night and I don't think it is done with us yet.  Since we are used to big rain it's no big deal.  The people who live in desert areas are thrilled with the rain and it sure does drop the dust and freshen up the air.

Late evening shots to the back of the park.

Eric has a flat on his back bicycle  tire so it's a good thing he brought those heavy duty cactus tubes with us from the states.  He has it torn down and I am degreasing the barbecue which is an easy thing when it is soaking wet.   I need to do laundry but the machines are all backed up in the office.  I'll probably try at happy hour when everyone is busy!

Friday there is to be a going away appy party for Maria at the palapa.  Although she has said she was going to quit before I guess this is the final day for her.  She and Dave are engaged and I guess she's had enough of Felipe's b... s... and has decided to retire.  All the RVers will miss her expertise.  It is really too bad that the Mexican workers are treated so shabbily by their employers.  They all work hard and long hours and get nothing much for it.  Too bad!

Things are pretty quiet here right now, until Carnival starts next week  and there have been quite a few people leaving the park.  Some going south and some going north so the park has lightened up quite a bit.

We have quite a collection of great tailed Grackles here in Mazatlan and it is quite something to see them in the evening.  Since they like to roost across the street in one of the complexes or on the Hydro wires someone is always trying to chase them away.  If disturbed for too long too late in the day they get quite frantic trying to roost.  The other evening it got quite late and they were flying really low trying to find a place to sit.

Frantic Grackles.

The sky full of Grackles.
