We are heading home to Terrace …first day…Kelowna to Cache Creek.

It is going to be an easy day today….weather is sunny and not too far to go so we won’t leave till 10 am.

We head out of Kelowna up Gordon Drive to Harvey where we turn right.  Harvey becomes 97N and takes us north to Vernon.  As we drive along the many lakes of “Lake Country” are on our right.

Coming down the long hill into Vernon.  IMG_0466

Downtown Vernon.  IMG_0467

We turn right for 97 North (Okanagan Highway) through Falkland and on through Kamloops.  97A continues on to Salmon Arm.   IMG_0468

Around and under the highway and on to Falkland. IMG_0469

Not as green here.  IMG_0470

This used to be a turf farm but now it’s grapes.   IMG_0471

The valley through Falkland IMG_0472 IMG_0473 IMG_0474

Downtown Falkland.  A pretty little place with lots of farming.         IMG_0475

Not very green as we head to Westwold. IMG_0476

Old barns. IMG_0477

A for sale sign….is Westwold for sale!!! IMG_0478

Quiet and pretty, except for the traffic.  IMG_0480 IMG_0481

Just past Westwold there was a pull off and it was time for lunch.  A bit cloudy but 80F.  Still nice and warm.  IMG_0483

More old barns.  I must remind myself to clean my Mexico sticker residue off the windshield.  IMG_0484

Heading down the long, long, long hill where you come out east of Kamloops.   IMG_0485

Heading down.  IMG_0486

As we come out to rejoin the other highway 97 the Thompson River will be on our right as we head towards Kamloops. IMG_0487

Pretty along the Thompson River.  IMG_0488

IMG_0489

Almost on the outskirts of Kamloops now. IMG_0490

And then we go up, up, up and up some more.  The temperature is about 80F.IMG_0491

It seems to go up forever.IMG_0492

We turn right and stay on highway 97 to Cache Creek.IMG_0493

Lots of choices!IMG_0494

Off we go.IMG_0495

Kamloops Lake on our right as we travel along. IMG_0496

IMG_0497

Don’t go to fast or….that’s what will happen.IMG_0498

Not a ripple on the lake….and no wind which is a good thing for us.

IMG_0500

Eric would like to stop and look at all the mining machinery in Savona.   IMG_0501

He also thinks it would be easier to haul the rig with a truck like this.  IMG_0502

The Thompson River is now on our left as we head for Cache Creek.IMG_0503

Beautiful and sunny and hot.  We are parked in the Brookside RV park and will assess our travel plans tomorrow. IMG_0504

The creek is roaring and apparently it can flood the park. IMG_0505

So…a good day and tomorrow it will be windy, rainy and cool.

My morning “Kelowna” walk.

While we’ve been parked in Ian and Linda’s driveway I have hauled my  butt out of bed every morning and gone for my daily walk.  Ian & Linda live in the Lower Mission Area.  When Ian moved there over 30 years ago he was really in the “boonies” but not anymore.

I head down the street to Welke and out to Gordon drive.  IMG_0426

On the right as I head North on Gordon Drive to Mission Creek it is very rural.  IMG_0427

But…on the left the old farm is gone and now ….condo’s.  IMG_0428

The 100 year old Thomson Farm is on the right or north side of Gordon Drive.

IMG_0430

Lovely and green with a wetland between the farm and the new recreation centre and the H2O Aquatic centre. IMG_0431

Just north of the farm is the new recreation centre.

IMG_0432

That’s the H2O centre just past the Recreation centre. IMG_0433 Room for bicycles, joggers, walkers, skateboarders and you name it. IMG_0434

Now I’m at Mission Creek and off the busy Gordon Drive heading toward Swamp Road where I will cross the creek and head back along the other side of the creek.  IMG_0435

Beautiful. IMG_0436

Heading down to the trail. IMG_0438

To the left as I walk….horses and riding arena’s.  IMG_0440

It’s spring and the creek is rising and ….muddy.IMG_0441

IMG_0442

I meet bicycles.IMG_0443

Joggers.IMG_0444

I am now up to Swamp Road where I cross to the other side of the creek and head back.  IMG_0445

This is Indian Land.

IMG_0446

Heading back down the trail to Gordon Drive and home. IMG_0447

There is an older lady who lives close by who always decorates this small tree on the trail.  Now it is for “Mother’s Day!”IMG_0448

Joggers with dogs.

It was at this point I noticed a “small lady walking toward me”  and guess who….Linda.   She told me another way to walk and it  included turning around and going back to Swamp Road. South to Kamloops Road which runs right beside the Michael Brook Gold Course.IMG_0450

Michael Brook Golf Course where Linda plays weekly. IMG_0451

Chickens on the right of the golf course.  Linda did say that the Eagles come down and have them for “lunch” ….poor chickens….the rooster looked like he was staying close the chicken coop. Coward!IMG_0452

Linda and I continued along the walking trail and back out to Gordon Drive and home.

I’d left at 6:45 and it was now almost 8:30….a longer walk than usual.

We are leaving this morning so it was now time for coffee, breakfast, a shower and packing up.

We were on the road by 10 am and off to the Brookside RV Park in Cache Creek.  When we get there we will decide about tomorrow’s travel as it looks like the storm that is moving through B.C. may have some snow with it.  No Bueno!
