Coos Bay, Oregon to Susanville,California

We were on the road just before 8am this morning with about 380 miles to go. We left 101 and wound our way along Hwy 42 to I 5.  Twisty and turny like a slalom.

   Onto I 5 which was packed with trucks until just south of Yreka, CA.

      Showers here and there but not bad.

Up and over Grant's pass and the Siskyos.

  Siskyou Summit...4130ft.  Much higher elevations later in the day and even higher tomorrow.  But...it's not cold so no snow.

When you go up..you must come down.

The trees are turning here and at home the leaves are down.

Good bye Oregon and hello...California.

We leave I 5 onto 89 and Susanville where we stopped for the night.

The logs here are huge and mostly pine. Not many logs aboard as the trucks don't have heavy duty trailers.

          Not much traffic which is nice.

          Twisty turny here which is hard work for the driver.

It opened out here to grassland and cattle.

       Evidence of recent fires.

Today's route.  We last went this way in 2019 pulling the Jeep on our way to Mazatlan to spend our first winter in our recently purchased house.  

We had a really good time with Connie and Manny in Coos Bay and we'll meet up with them when they come to Mazatlan in December.  We've been friends since we met them in the fall of 2009 on our way to the Las Jaibas RV park in Mazatlan. 

We're staying in the Super 8 in Susanville where we stayed in 2019.  Nice room, beer, shower, frozen dinner from home and bed.  Tomorrow Ridgecrest, CA.

A day in Coos Bay!

Connie and we're out and about yesterday and she took me to Shore Acres state Park. 

Eric and Manny have lots in common...so, lots of chat.

Today we stopped at Chucks and bought ling cod for dinner.

We started by driving along through the park and looking at the shore.

A lovely quiet bay. 

We followed the steep trail to the shore.

I always enjoy a garden where ever I visit.

A beautiful, crisp fall day. That's Connie.

This late blooming shrub didn't have a label but it had the most interesting flowers.

All very manicured and English in style.  Predominantly shrubs but small area foe roses, herbs etc.

Here we walked down  the trail to the shore to view the bay.

Back up and that's me next a very large Gunnera manicata or giant rhubarb originally from Brazil.

Most of the shrubs were decorated by light strings.  Volunteers who support the gardens put them on.  The lights are on at night from Thanksgiving to New Years.  It would be quite a sight. 

When we finished up we continued on to see the seals and sea lions.  The tide was in and they were out on the rocks.  

We could barely see them but we could sure hear them! 

We came home and while we were chatting Mitzi started barking,  She could see the deer through the stop window in the front door.  That driveway is really steep.

Last night was Halloween and Connie and I were off to the haunted woods at the race track..

My bangs were so long I had to trim them and then I got them crooked! 

We waited in line for almost an hour on a steep hill.

  We had fun!  Mostly young people and us.  We screamed appropriately when monsters leapt out at us and chased us with roaring chainsaws..Halloween isn't just for kids🤣
