It was cloudy and cool this morning when we left Cache Creek. We didn’t get a real early start as we didn’t have far to go.
As we started out heading east on highway 97 it was easy to see how much rain there has been in this area. The hills were green, the corn for feed not harvested and lots of alfalfa fields waiting to be cut. It’s usually quite dry at this time of the year but….not this year.
I wonder if all the alfalfa will end up as silage.
It’s a huge valley and anywhere water, such as the Thompson River is available for irrigation there are crops growing.
Heading down to Savonna and Kamloops Lake is ahead. Getting more and more cloudy.
Twisty and turny through here.
I’ll bet there’s rain up ahead.
It is a long, long way down into Kamloops and seems even longer when we return in the spring and have to go “up” the long hill.
We’ll stay on 97 and head to Kelowna via Falkland like we usually do. Last year we went through Salmon Arm etc. and didn’t like the drive.
Coming through Westwold and it was looking ominous…
….and then it started to pour!
When we got to Falkland I needed a pit stop and since it was 11:30 we decided to have lunch. We’d really hoped not to hit rain as the truck and rig were clean when we left home but…it was not to be.
The rain eased up and the sky started to clear.
Coming into Vernon and there is construcion here.
Downtown Vernon.
Heading towards Kelowna and it has warmed up to a balmy 14C.
By the time we got to Ian and Linda’s it was about 2pm and we were parked and set up in no time.
Happy hour, a lovely dinner and early to bed. We are both exhhausted from the drive. More so from the threat of snow than anything else I think.
All in all a relatively uneventful trip which in the end is a good thing.
