We were up early this morning, packed up and on the road by 7:45 am on our way to Ely, Nevada.
Heading up the hill out of Laughlin.
Heading up.
Right turn north at the top and 19 miles to Searchlight.
Just before Searchlight which is only 45 minutes north of Laughlin the right front passenger side tire on the 5th wheel separated and peeled off taking the bottom side of the trailer with it. Eric stopped as fast as he could when we heard the noise but the damage was done. It was not a tire that showed any separation. Properly inflated, not too hot out, not going too fast but there you have it…the ongoing problem with trailer tires. Sorry but they are just shitty tires.
What a mess.
The propane line to the fridge is damaged but still working so far.
Luckily it was the passenger side, we got off the road onto the shoulder and put out the cones and Eric changed the tire.
Cut off the loose sheet metal.
It is not hot out!
With the trailer spare on we were on our way, holding our breath that another one wouldn’t go while we went through Las Vegas. We had no other issues with tires and the drive was sunny, pretty, quiet and warm so at least that’s a good thing.
Great Basin Highway.
Joshua tree.
We had lunch just north of Ash Springs,Nevada under the big Cottonwood trees that were dropping fluff all over us. Looked like it was snowing!
Greening up.
Coming through White River Canyon. Every year I take pictures as the rock just amazes me.
Getting higher!
Lund.
Trees are blooming and the grass is growing but it would be as cold as a “witches tit!” in the winter.
Stark and beautiful.
Turn right to Ely and up the final hill to the summit.
They have thinned the trees next to the road and it looks quite nice.
7316 ft.
Over the top and down into Ely.
We were into the Valley View RV park by 4pm which isn’t bad considering the day.
Our truck spare fits the trailer so we do have back up but tomorrow we’ll see what we can do here in Ely and if not here maybe Wells, Nevada or Twin Falls, Idaho.
It is sunny and warmish here in Ely at about 70F. Not supposed to freeze tonight so that is good news.
Eric just had a conversation with a guy in a rig next to us that has blown all the tires on his new rig (all separated.) Goodyear Marathon tires. Eric changed ours after one separated and changed to TowMax and that is what separated today. The guy next to us has insurance claims in with Goodyear and now has very expensive Light truck tires on the rig. $400 each Goodyear truck tires…..not trailer tires! Eric told him that he himself has never in all of his years driving cars, trucks, heavy trucks etc. had a tire separate until this trailer. The guy next to us drove truck for 17 years and buses for 15 and never had a tire separate. What does that tell you….pretty sad!
Happy Easter….bah humbug!
Oh boy! What tough luck. Did you call your insurance company? The damage should be covered.
ReplyDeleteHi Croft:
ReplyDeleteCouldn't call yesterday...Easter Sunday but will try today.
Sorry to hear about the tires.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, I was just talking to my Mom, Laurie's sister, and she just finished reading your blog. She is so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister and the passing of Eric's mother. My mom enjoys your blog so much. The pictures bring back so many memories for her and she hopes you keep up with your blog. Best wishes from Jane Pfann and Eleanor Stanbridge - former Mazatlán snowbird :)
