Susanville CAto Ridgecrest CA

It was busy at the Super 8 in Susanville last night.  Turns out there is a youth championship soccer tournament on this weekend.  Kids and dogs everywhere!  A quiet night with homemade lasagna, salad and a bun in our room.  I pack frozen meals with us from home which makes our stops easy if there isn't a restaurant close by.  I also make lunches 3 days ahead so no stopping in restaurants for that.  Suits us.  When we get to Yuma and the Ramada we'll eat East Indian and Vietnamese that are close by.  The time fell back last night so we gained an hour but tomorrow we'll lose it when we head into Arizona as they don't change.

On the road at 7am...8am Arizona time😁
Heading south on 395.  We fueled up in Susanville and it was $5.79...last year..$7.99!

Gorgeous country.

It's easy to see why there is evidence of fires everywhere with all the dry grass.

Too many rocks...make a fence.

A ranch in the valley.

As we rise the junipers appear.

Coming into Reno and...

...there's construction.

It's Sunday so not as busy as usual.   We stay in the middle lane while everyone else packs up bobbing and weaving their way through.

A valley of casinos.
Back in the early1990's I  flew from Terrace to Vancouver and then to Reno and the Flamingo Hotel with my Dad.  Mom passed away young at 58 in 1985 and after that Dad started saving up for trips to Reno.  I had a $500 budget for gambling and after I quickly lost 200 dollars I decided to go a tour!  Carson city and Lake Tahoe  and some shopping.  It was really fun to go with my Dad..  He discovered a lump on his neck as we traveled home on the plane.  He thought it was a cyst...he died of throat cancer. I'm glad I went❤️

Fuel in Carson Valley, Nevada.

A lovely little town.

Up ahead Topaz Lake.

Welcome to California...again.

Lovely fall color.

Interesting rock face with a power line😁

Diesel's $6.89 here!

Lots of old pretty little towns as we drive along.

Up at 8000 ft.

Heading down to Mono Lake on the 8 mile hill.

Lunch at the Mammoth Lakes rest stop.

Lake rest stop...2C.

Eric just loves these big trees.

I
Down some more.

As we drove farther south it started to warm up and the beautiful scenery faded away.

Lots of cinder cones and lava.

We left at 7am Pacific standard time and rolled into the Days Inn(last year the Econo Lodge) around 3pm. Really windy but warm. We're tucked in for beer, dinner and bed.  Another 358 miles tomorrow.  The last two days were over 400 so we'll rest in Yuma for a couple of days and then carry on.  Supposed to be hugely windy tomorrow 😬

  1. So happy you travelled with Dad. He was thrilled. And I am happy you are travelling and enjoying yourself. I think of Mom often. She didn't have any girlfriends. Sad. As she was a friendly outgoing person. That is why I make sure I get out with friends!

  2. It seemed like it was meant to be that I went...I'm glad I did. I had close friends when I was first married and then didn't have time when the girls were at home. Now, friends again❤️. Yes, Mom needed at least one good friend.

    1. I am happy you have "girl" friends. Women need other women.
