It has been a few years since the Salvation Army children have come to dance at Las Jaibas. As the numbers in the park dwindled we didn’t have enough people to interest them in coming. It was explained that they make most of their yearly income at Christmas. Quote…“Unlike in the USA, the Mexican government does not provide any funding for orphans or orphan homes. Therefore, orphan homes are reliant on the support of volunteers and monetary donations.” The Mexican Social Services department does however place children in care into the orphanages. Hardly seems fair!
A couple of rigs that are new to the park asked the Salvation Army to come and here they are. This is a very long blog of pictures.
This is the home’s donation slip if anyone is interested. We here in Las Jaibas support another smaller orphanage with our Chili Cook Off and that is where our parks focus is. Chili Cook off date at Las Jaibas …..January 31st at 1pm. More info to follow.
Getting ready dance. The small children are tired. They sing and dance here and then continue on the malls to collect donations. A hard life but they are fed, clothed and loved and lucky to be in the orphanages care.
We start with a song.
This is Papa John and his wife Lupita’s baby….Blanca. Isn’t she sweet!
The small children just steal your hearts.
This young man has some mobility issues but he did his job dancing and just look at her beautiful smile.
This fellow has been helping the orphanage for many years and he gave us some background on some of the children. There are people in the park who do monthly support donations to this young lady.
Lots of work to get all the hair do’s done.
Is that not the cutest little guy you’ve ever seen!
The older children dance very well.
This talk was to explain the donation program and hand out the donation cards.
This young ladies beauty is just amazing and the smile is something else.
Look at that Mayan profile.
Liberated from dancing these two found some loungers for a rest!
The crowd.
Everyone is having a great time.
This little girl will likely need braces but she’d need a sponsor for that.
Another sweet little girl.
This is the dance of the roosters and this is “ the rooster that lost….dead!”
Donation time. The two youngest, cutest children with a gringo to hold their hands as they collect the money.
The last dance.
The final song…..Feliz Navidad!
An enthusiastic finale…..for most of them!
I was feeling bad that since the notice that the children were coming had only been up for three days we weren’t prepared. Turns out the two rigs up the front were prepared with hot dogs, hamburgers pop and chips. Good job guys.
When the children are done they are off to the mall for the evening to collect donations.
A heartwarming performance that makes you count your blessings.
The children touch your heart in so many ways -your pictures are lovely
ReplyDeleteWe have had them here for a number of years and they do very well as we bring in the folks from Estrella del Mar.
