Two road trips in one week...wow! On Thursday we were off to Concordia with a side trip to Mesillas. On the road at 10:30 and this time we didn't take the bypass but went through town and then on to Concordia via Villa Union.
Not as quiet as the bypass but...interesting.
Villa Union is a busy little place.
At the south end of Villa Union we turn left and head for Concordia.
A pretty drive and this year it is greener than it has ever been. Lots of rain! Just before Concordia we stopped at the muebles (furniture shops) along the edge of the road. I'm looking for a long low dresser for the bedroom and a wall unit/Tv stand that will hold a bigger TV. As the space for the TV is in an alcove that is only 47 inches wide it will be hard, if not impossible to find. Most TV's are huge these days and so are the entertainment centers that they sit on. Putting the TV on the wall won't work as the alcove is too deep.
We didn't find anything along the way so we went into Concordia for lunch. We usually eat at La Granaria and today was no exception. The restaurant is a lot larger than we thought and this day we sat out the back in a garden area....very nice.
Eric had chicken fajitas.
Ian and I had the Granaria burger and it was a whopper. Two patties, a weiner, bacon, Mexican plastic cheese slice, lettuce, onion and tomato. I managed most of the meat, none of the bun and some of the fries. Should have had something smaller!
Ian is a happy guy!
Linda had chicken enchiladas and she made it through two of the three. Very, very good.

Founded as Villa de San Sebastián in 1565 by Francisco de Ibarra, Concordia was originally a center of gold, silver and copper mining. The main church, San Sebastián, was built in 1785 with an ornate baroque facade. The bell is brass and Eric guesses that it was cast in Europe and brought to Mexico for this church but the internet does not talk about it.
In the municipal building there are many murals depicting the revolution.
Heading back to the Jeep. We'll continue on to Mesillas which is a furniture town just south of Concordia. All high end stuff and some of it is imported from Europe as well as being made locally.
We rolled through Mesillas and stopped at quite a few of the many furniture stores. What we found was not of the best quality and the prices were high. I have no intention of paying $1400. for one bedroom dresser to put a TV on in the bedroom. The square you see above was at the far end of town. We took a little drive and found ourselves wandering up and down streets trying to find our way out due to all the roads that were dug up.
Would have been easier if we were on a mule!!
Lots of big fancy furniture shops. So now my curiosity has been satisfied and we'll continue to look in Mazatlan. Maybe I can find something second hand...who knows. All in all it was a good day.
