My annual garden meeting.

I belong to a small garden club that boasts some excellent gardeners who are all friends.  Our ages range in the club from 71 to 88...so yes gardening does keep you mostly active and mostly healthy well into old age.

I usually host the August meeting but this year I decided to mix it up and host June.  Same garden but it looks totally different month by month.

Today we were 9 as a few ladies were missing for one reason or another.
We did start by wandering through the garden but I'll show those pictures last!
We have a very small house but the sun room fit 9 with no problem.

That's Marie who hates to have her picture taken😁

Christine is up getting snacks.  Some times we bring food but today a provided the crackers, cheese, salami etc.  I baked a rhubarb crisp that you can see on the counter.

Marg, Aveline and Betty.

Trudy and Betty chatting.
We chatted and ate and then everyone got to tell us how their gardens have changed as they age.  So far at 76 I haven't made any big changes but...the time will come.
Below you can see some of the beds in my woodland country garden.  I do mow the (so called lawns😁) edge and weed all of it on rotating basis and everything is perrenial except for a couple of tubs in front of the garden shed.

The ladies wander and chat.  It's nice to have gardeners view the garden as they all love and know plants.

The vegetable garden is very slow due to the cold, rainy spring.  The row of Crimson King maples are from our large mature tree.  They have to be moved soon!

My rock garden covered in creeping thyme.
The large green  plant with an airy spray of white flowers is a perrenial Crambe Cordifolia and beside it a Ninebark in full bloom.

The shrub border greets you as you come up the driveway.

That's a Rodgersia blooming under the trees

Looking up to the house from the "dry" streambed which is actually used to divert spring run off.

The ladies remarked that the Hostas weren't as large as usual but...they usually come here in August!

Beside the house looking out into the field.

There are some zucchinis, a tomato plant and even a cucumber in there.

Betty really liked this color combination and she asked for a piece of the purple sedum on the right.

My garden shed used to be a chicken house. One winter many years ago Eric skidded it down from behind the house and put shelves and a bench in it for me.  Last year it got a new coat of paint.
We all had a lovely time together and next month we'll have our annual luncheon at Aveline's out at Lakelse lake.

My baby sister Joy comes for a visit.

Last Wednesday my youngest sister Joy arrived after a two day drive from Coquitlam.  We hadn't seen eachother for two years so she felt a visit was in order.  Our house is small so Eric volunteered to sleep in the RV so we could visit and he'd get some peace and quiet🤣 I am one of four girls and we aren't a quiet bunch but we always argued about who was the chattiest! Our sister Elisa passed away and now we are three.

We coffeed with the ladies, shopped and went to our large farmers market on Saturday.

We had lovely weather while she was here so we had happy hour outside.

A kiss in the hostas!

Kitselas mountain in the background.

Joy and Eric chatting.

Joy was 5 when Eric and I got married so she's Eric's little sister too!

My selfie😁
We had a great visit ❤️ and Joy's on her way home.

Prince George and home to Terrace😊

We started out from Prince George yesterday morning at 7:15 am with 360 miles to go.

Sunny and 10C.

Hmmm....a little stormy up ahead.

Bid logs on this truck.  A little farther on he stopped to unload.

Vanderhoof.

The Co Gen plant that burns waste from the mill next to it and produces power.

Teeny, tiny wood.

Just a little lake by the road.

There's the rain!

Burns Lake.

Now we're in Houston.

The giant fishing rod.

Coming down Hungry Hill before Smithers.

Beautiful and green before Telkwa.

Telkwa.

The Bulkley River.

Smithers is farming country.

Coming into Smithers you cross the Bulkley...muddy in spring.

Hazelton visitors center where you can stop to visit K'Saan.

It's getting greener and only 80 miles to go!

Electric Avenue😁
In some areas spring hadn't arrived at all.

Down below the mighty Skeena River.

The huge coastal mountains.

It's blurry but this is the cutoff to the Alaska Hwy at Kitwanga.

The Skeena River is muddy but not very high. The snowpack is low this year which is not a good thing.

The rain returned to welcome us home.

Coming off Highway 16 onto Gold Creek Road.

The road along the bottom of our property.

Up above out buildings an an old barn.  You can see our 5th wheel stored under cover.

It's been a really early spring and my shrub border is mostly leaked out and...the laws need mowing!!

Our little house.  We're on 40 acres bounded on three sides by provincial park and we've lived here for 47 years.  Everything here was built by Eric so our ties are very strong❤️

My garden shed and a couple of garden beds.

It was a beautiful evening and the rain stopped.

The view from our sun room window.

When we got home Eric turned the power on, the fridge was started, I built a fire in the wood stove and turned on the heaters. I had bought enough food in Kelowna for dinner and today's breakfast and lunch.  We had 5 gallons of water to use until Eric restarted our water system.  I unpacked the truck while Eric got the Jeep operational which was a bit of a hoop de do for him.  Every time he reconnected the battery the security system reacted by honking the horn.  We finally got it stopped.  So, beer, dinner and bed.
Today I shopped for groceries to restock the house while Eric unpacked the back of the truck and worked on the water system.  A brisk 24 hours with lots more to do but...we're happy to be home!
