Why, AZ to Laughlin, NV and a couple of days after.

Thursday morning 8am and we're hooked up and ready to head off to Laughlin.  The quietness of the desert is just what we needed for a couple of nights.
 Everything is green and blooming.
Heading north on 85 which took us through Gila Bend and up to Buckeye where we headed west on I 10.
Love the rock in the desert.
Lots of traffic coming into Gila Bend from the underpass off of 85.  The traffic was backed up for about 20 minutes.  Never had that happen before and not on a Thursday morning.
Back on 85 heading north to Buckeye.
 Left for Quartzite.
Tons of traffic and most of it was trucks.  We only do 90 to 100 km so everyone passes us and we had quite a head wind so it required a fuel stop before Quartzite.
Why camels?  Well..." Hi Jolly or Hadji Ali later known as Philip Tedro born in 1828 was an Ottoman subject and in 1856 became one of the first camel drivers ever hired by the US army to lead the camel driver experiment in the southwest.  Hi Jolly became a living legend until his death in Arizona in 1902.  The 70 camels were brought in by Jefferson Davis along with a Syrian caretaker who came to known as Hi Jolly.  The idea was to use them to transport freight and people across the desert.  The Civil war intervened, Jefferson Davis changed jobs and the camels were left to fend for themselves in the desert near Quartzite. Their last reported sighting was in 1942.|"
Heading north on 95 towards Parker.  I just love the gold of the grass against the grey sky.
 Pretty.

 Coming through Parker.
Railroad bridge over the Colorado River.
The " ribbon candy" highway north of Vidal Junction.
Through Needles and heading north on the Needles Hwy which is a wreck for the first few miles  because it's owned by the town of Needles which obviously doesn't have enough money to fix it.  Reminds us of Mexico!
Off to the right the Colorado River.  Playground and drawing card for the area.  Lots of jet skis on it.

So...we arrived in the Riverside RV park around 3:30 which isn't bad for a 300 mile plus journey.  Set up, TV connected and having a beer by 5:30.  A long day for us and ....uneventful which is a good thing!

Friday was a quiet day for Eric as he is still suffering from allergies/cold and isn't feeling up to doing much.  Along with that his left shoulder is still a problem from his fall so he can use a little down time.  It's quiet here in the park and not too hot so that suits us just fine.  Cloudy and cool in the morning but nice and warm by the afternoon.  I of course had shopping to do so I spent the afternoon at the little outlet mall.  When I returned Eric had walked the park and gone to look at the RV sales that are right next to us.  He was also wearing ear plugs as they'd been tuning up for a  Saturday night Brad Paisley concert.  Country and western which isn't our thing!

Saturday we were off to shop and get an oil change for the truck.  A quick stop at Safeway for some edible bread as I'm almost out of the bread I brought from my bakery in Mazatlan.   Then to Walmart where Eric likes to get the oil change done.  While he was at it he bought another pair of tires for the RV....and had the ruined one changed to a new one.  The Tycho's can't have too many tires!  Grocery shopping for me and we're all set for a few more days.

Today is Sunday and who knows what the day will bring.

  1. Wilbur asks, what kind of tires did you buy?

  2. Eric bought two Walmart Dextro. The ones he had were the best out of all the tires we've bought. Cant really tell about the Sailuns as they got damaged a bit when the springs broke on the way down.

  3. I drove that Needles Hwy. in a rented sedan coming from Phoenix to Vegas (via Laughlin) a few years ago. I'm glad it was a rental as we got tossed around a bit.
