Angela Peralta Final Concert Of The Camerata Campbell Season–The National Champion Rondalla

It’s the 4th of March and the final concert of season of the season.

When we arrived at the theatre we bumped into Contessa and Colin from Stone Island.  Contessa is a fellow blogger and writes a very informative blog about the Isla and Mazatlan and you can find her blog  (5C’s Que Pasa) at ….http://www.contessajewall.com/   This photo is courtesy of Colin and her blog also has a nice video with sound of today’s performance.

Today’s program was bitter sweet for the Culiacan Rondalla group.  This was their first performance since their lead singer a member of the Bernal family passed away.  I counted seven other family member names on the program in the group and their M/C the first gentleman on the left dedicated this concert to his brother.

I am still using a cell phone for pictures so there are only a couple.  There are 14 members present today and as the performer on the left did the M/C ing in Spanish Gordon Campbell translated as best he could.

As the member who passed away was their lead singer the group has struggled to regroup and change.    Three performers sang lead in different numbers and the gentleman fourth in from the left did most of the guitar solos.  Every member played classical guitar except for the bass player and also sang….what a talented group.  As they performed they all had huge smiles on their faces and it was obvious how much they were enjoying themselves….as were we!

After the intermission Gordon asked the members of the Rondalla to introduce themselves and tell us what they taught.  It turns out they are teachers in secondary schools and one of kindergarten as well as all teaching music.  There was even a teacher who teaches the teachers!

I can only say that this was a warmly received, hugely enjoyed, magnificent performance by a large group of talented performers.  They received a standing ovation and were obviously touched by how much we enjoyed their performance and returned for a final number.  Gordon Campbell promised to bring them back, hopefully for the tenth anniversary of Camerata Campbell.

After the concert we wandered off to find lunch.

Last week we stopped at a small restaurant on Carnival street and Eric wanted to eat there again.   When we sat down there was another older Mexican eating and he said “ Have you been here before and we said yes.”  He remarked that the food was very, very good here and he was eating a large meal with much gusto!

Mariscos Chon has been in business since 1946 so it’s the same age as Eric!  There is lots of memorabilia on the wall.

Eric ordered tacos marlin and I had dorado empanizado which came with rice, tortillas and fresh steamed vegetables.  Delicious and since it was about 3pm by the time we ate it will be soup for supper again tonight!

Another good afternoon and we’ll attend more of the concerts next season.
