A Ride To San Ignacio

We have not been out on the bike much this year but now that Chili Cook-Off is over and our company has gone home it was time for a ride.

We do like San Ignacio so off we went.

As I I have blogged this ride many times I won’t blog the whole journey.  If you look back through my archives you will see San Ignacio pop up many times!

Keep going to Culiacan or turn right to San Ignacio. IMG_2435

This is where you would turn left to San Javier or go straight to San Ignacio but…..the sign doesn’t say San Ignacio!IMG_2436

Just outside San Ignacio there is a sign but it’s a bit too late if you didn’t know where you were going.   IMG_2438

Through the beautiful big arch and….IMG_2439

over the the river.  Lots of water after last weeks rains. IMG_2440

Hotel Anjolin.  I have looked this up on line but it does not show that there is a restaurant inside.  IMG_2441

We rode down to the second square where we usually stop for lunch.  Today we were lucky and the restaurant just off the square that is attached to the performing arts centre was open.

It was lovely and cool inside.  The ride from Mazatlan was very hot….almost too hot to be enjoyable.

The square was busy with a political rally for the new Sinaloense party.  I looked on line and it looks to be a left of center party created in 2012.  They were busy trying to sign up new members.

We always end up taking pictures of the beautiful murals.  IMG_2446

Inside the performing arts centre there are many beautiful murals. IMG_2447

Looks like you could just walk right behind him up the street!IMG_2450

Looking out to the square.  IMG_2453

I’m not in jail!  IMG_2454

We’d had our usual conversation with the waitress about food….her repeating the menu in rapid Spanish and us….not getting most of what she said!  Today Eric had the camarones empanizado or breaded shrimp and I….IMG_2455

pollo (chicken) frito (fried) a la plancha (ironed! or flattened.)   Both meals were excellent and served with fresh tortillas and of course a cold Pacifico.

IMG_2456

Always an odd angle when I put the camera on an adjoining table to take a picture.  Lunch was 100 pesos each without the beer.  Reasonable and very good.

The waitress told us that the restaurant was open every day except Domingo (Sunday.)  However we have been there on week days when it wasn’t open so…..you can’t count on it!  Always a chicken/taco stand open somewhere in town.

IMG_2457

We wandered the edge of the square looking for a bench in the shade as it was still very hot. IMG_2458

This truck passed by loaded with sand….hugely heavy and all loaded by hand no doubt.IMG_2459

Eric wandered over into the municipal building which used to be the Governor’s residence.  The buildings are under reconstruction. IMG_2460

A mural of historic Mexicans.  IMG_2461

The faces of history. IMG_2462

Too much light shining to really see the names of the people on the mural.  The murals are done on canvas. IMG_2463

An old lectern.   IMG_2464

I wonder how many new members they signed up!IMG_2465

This very old building is supposedly being renovated but it has a huge crack on the right and the roof is gone.  Eric thinks it is in danger of just crumbling.  IMG_2466

We are now leaving town on the one way street.  At some point you must make a left and move one over one more street to get back to the road out of town. IMG_2467

Back over the bridge and heading home. IMG_2468

I did not take pictures of the countryside as it is very dry and not very pretty.  I’d have thought that the rain might have greened it up but it hasn’t.

So it was a quiet ride, an enjoyable lunch and great to get out of the park for the day.
