Chili Cook Off, Camera’s in and Cloudy Weather

This is the ad that Frank posted in the Pacific Pearl for the Las Jaibas Chili Cook Off.  At this point I believe we will have 20 cooks participating.

I had offered to help stuff the bags that are handed out to each person who pays to taste Chili.  Each bag has a napkin, small chili tasting container, a spoon and a ballot.

Here is our little assembly line.  We are stuffing over 300 bags.  Frank has figured out how much Chili is going to be available (at least 6 qts./liters) per cook x 20 and then how many 1 oz. dippers that is likely to fill.  So….300 bags.  All very scientific!  The event has grown very large but we are limited by the number of cooks and how much we chili we can provide.  It is a challenge in an RV to make it ahead of time and then cool it.  Means you fridge must be almost empty.

I had Felipe (park owner) call the camera repair guy (Foto Urrea) on Constitution street in downtown Mazatlan.  I’d been by on Monday after 2pm and I couldn’t find him. Turns out I’d forgotten his hours. He is open between 10am to 2pm and from 4pm to 7pm.  I hopped the bus yesterday and took my Panasonic Lumix in to have it cleaned and the lens cover opening fixed.  If I open it manually it won’t stay open (flops around) but closes fine.  I’d be sunk without this camera repair man as it wouldn’t be worth it to have a repair in Canada or the USA.  Love Mexico!

The weather over the last few days has been very cloudy.  Warm enough, but no sun.  Kind of dreary and not really good for the beach.  To those of you in colder climes this is whining but …..where is the sun!

  1. Yes you are whining about the weather. I just about froze this morning with the wind. And now it has started to rain. And it's supposed to pour buckets!

  2. We've been cloudy too but not today! I know - funny eh?! our perspective is WAY off! Good idea to raise money for the kids!

  3. Good to hear it wasn't your new Canon. Are you cooking again this year?

    1. The Canon will probably need a cleaning before I go home but so far it isn't too dirty. I was unaware that zoom lenses use suction to operate and so dust and dirt getting inside is inevitable, especially on the moto. Yes, I am cooking this year. Such pressure after winning last year! However, I do know that it was a very close contest. As long as people enjoy the chili I am fine with that. Nice to win but it's all for the children!
